How's it going, you wonderful people? I hope you are all enjoying it and finding different ways to get your 5k recorded? I'm cheering you on like mad from the sidelines here, and I'm enjoying reading your blogs about what you've achieved. You've done the first week - you're brilliant :)

Awh Annie that's so lovely of you and means the world to us! :) So far so good for me. I'm not going to be doing anything new as such but it is making me walk at times when I wouldn't normally and I will be dusting off my exercise DVD in a short while so I am getting my good habits back which is great! That means by the end of the 50 days it will be second nature to carry on, hopefully! ;)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

That's good to hear, Sue - I'm not sure I would have taken anything else on. Extra walking is great, though, and what's this about an exercise DVD? Good for you - keep it up :)

Thanks for your support. Just sitting here wondering what to do today - run, walk or cycle might need another cup of tea first to decide.

Anniemurph profile image

Definitely time for another cup of tea while you think about it! :) I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do. The weather is lovely here, very springlike, so I hope it's the same for you. All the best :)

Thank you Dear Annie! Like Sue it's making me walk when I used to drive and I've started Strength and Flex with Laura. I'm going to get some DVDs when i get bored. Have a good Sunday, Delia x

Ooh, I haven't thought about Strength and Flex - I hope that goes well, Delia! Extra walking is always a good thing too. Is it spring with you yet? I hope so - it's always so much easier to get out there when the sun is shining :) Enjoy your Sunday too.

It's spring here on alternate days! Yesterday was glorious and even this morning, I managed to walk in pleasant sunshine. Right now it's grey, glum and drizzly. Climate change?

Btw Strength and Flex is easy so far, but really does stretch those parts C25K doesn't reach. xox Delia

It's great to have your support. I'm also enjoying being part of a team. I had a bit of a wobble one day. I was cold, tired and just longing to flop down with a glass of wine and watch TV. But I couldnt let the team down - so off out I went and did a 5k walk. So thank you team!

I'm mainly going for more walks than I usually do. Over the 50 days I also want to gradually increase little bits of exercise during the day - eg a quick 10 or 15 minute walk at lunchtime. I think I'm more likely to carry it on afterwards if I'm more active thru'out the day. And its sunny here today at last so no excuse for not getting out and enjoying spring sunshine.

Oh, well done for not just flopping down (although wine is always good :) ) - that's just great, that the team kept you going! I think the idea of doing bits extra in your ordinary day is a good one. Sometimes the thought of having to get ready to go out for a special trip to the gym or wherever is off-putting, so if you can put an extra walk in at lunchtime, it doesn't have the same effort involved.

Keep it up - you're doing a great job :)

Well done everyone, I'm full of admiration, cheering from the injury bench. :-) Are your ankles any better Annie?

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate in reply to notbad

I hope you're improving? My ankle was thoroughly put in its place my my chiropractor so I'm back out there running, albeit slowly and steadily, thanks for asking :)

2654km completed according to the MalcyMeter mmcinteractive.com/5x50/sto... 8 runs completed for me but I'm expecting it to get really tricky to keep up as I'm back to work tomorrow .... I really like the morning runs but can't imagine getting up at 5:30 to fit it in before work

Anniemurph profile image

Crikey, this is a lot! I hope you manage to work the extra into your day - like you, I'm not sure I'd get up that early just yet! All the best to you - I hope it works out.

Well decided to go for a 5k run and it was the worst run I have every done. I just couldn't get into any kind of rhythm, I had cramp in my left calf and it felt like I was running through treacle. Has anyone else experienced this? I did go out last night and had a curry and lots of wine and must admit didn't get to bed until 1 a.m. so maybe that was the reason for such a dreadful run.

My muscles really ache so for the next few days I think I am going to do some walking and try the strength & flex podcast.

Do you think it's because you've been doing so much? (It can't be the curry and the wine and the late night, surely? :D ) I think you're doing the right thing by giving it a bit of a rest. It's a tremendous amount of exercise suddenly - well, it would be for me at any rate. Sorry - I don't know how much you were doing before, but I would really struggle with this amount of exercise every day. Good idea to try the strength and flex if your muscles are sore as well - I hope that works for you. All the best - you are doing brilliantly :)

I got blisters yesterday so settled for an hour of Yoga today. My back is killing me now.

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate in reply to George42

Ouch - I hope the blisters settle down soon. That must be most uncomfortable :( An hour of Yoga must be quite punishing as well - I really admire all of you 5x50-ers. I hope you feel more comfortable tomorrow morning - have a lovely sunny (hopefully) Sunday afternoon.

Thanks, the blisters are on my heels but I think they will heal pretty quick.

I felt worse after the yoga than I do after running. If only I could believe it was doing me some good. :)

It will be! Ha ha - love the icon, btw :D Keep it up, you're doing great!

Thanks Annie for the support! Such a shame you're on the bench right now, how's it going? Have you had to opportunity to get back out there yet? If so, please do take it slowly.

Anniemurph profile image

No, I'm back out there - cautiously and slowly, but plodding on! Thanks for your kind thoughts, and I hope it's all going well for you

Thanks for the pom-pom waving! I did my best bit of running ever today - all of ten minutes worth, and not really all that fast in the grand scheme of things, but I was very pleased with myself. (I'd been walking round a National Trust garden earlier with my daughter, but hadn't got up to 5k, hence the short sharp run.)

I'm really surprised that my legs seem to be holding up so well - and I wasn't saddle-sore after yesterday's 10 km bike ride. So all good really! :)

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate in reply to greenlegs

Well done on the bike ride - 10k seems a very long way to me. And how nice to be walking round an NT garden - it must be spring :) And then a run too - you are doing well :) Good luck for everything you do this week.

Hi Annie,

Thanks for the encouragement from here as well! I can tell you - every bit helps on this crazy target :-)

What was I thinking - me a fit person?????? I'm determined to get there somehow and hopefully you'll be able to join us next year :-)

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate in reply to thinnerandfitter

You'll get there, Ann, I have no doubt! You've just had an amazing week and you're all set for next week - go you and all the other 5x50 heroes!

Yes, next year I will try not to be as busy. Hopefully I will have moved house by then and I'll try not to arrange so much travel at this time of year :D

Bless you Annie! You're the best virtual cheerleader we could ask for! Keep shaking those pm-poms!!!! :-) The Hall's logged over 50 miles in 7 days by running -4/walking -3. My little footsies hurt! :-) Steve is being a good sport and sticking right with it! Happy to read the doctor visit went well and you will very soon achieve that 100th run!!! :-) Gayle

50 miles?????????????????????????? WOW! You're amazing :) Pom-poms shaking like mad :)

gdeann profile image
gdeannGraduate in reply to Anniemurph

I ended up with just a little over 25 miles running/walking and Steve a little over 26 or 27 miles running/walking. Impressive for us but we are no where near the mileage of some of the other challengers. Ohhhhh...I love the bright colors on the pom-poms! ;-)

Anniemurph profile image

I still think that's amazing! I think you're all doing brilliantly. I love the sense of community it engenders as well.

The pom-poms are indeed wonderful, but the less said about my skirt the better ;)
