stopping timer for walk breaks?

Does stopping the timer on ones garmin when one takes a walk break distort the distance covered when you run? I stopped the timer when I had walk break then resumed it but am uncertain that the distance covered is genuine.

Sorry deleted previous as I posted without finishing (senior moment).

I would think you are getting distorted results as your map tracking would keep going while your timer has been stopped. The only time I stop my timer is if I've been held up at traffic lights and I know they are going to be a while before I can cross. I would stop my watch and jog on the spot for that time period. Not sure if this helps answer your query though.
