room temperature water may help but I know some on here use a "buff" across their face. a buff is a piece of fabric that you can make into a hat, wear as a headband or as a sort of mask across the bottom of your face. its a funnel shaped piece of stretchy fabric. Im sure someone on here will put up a link to one :)

just take it nice and slow til you warm up, then your lungs don't hurt

Hi Jody

Contact a site member called Greenlegs, she has a collection of buffs that would put Ranulph Fiennes to shame and I'm sure would be only too happy to extol their virtue to you.

She must be good, she convinced me to buy one and I've never even felt the cold when I run!

I have four buffs and have been wearing them for years when hiking. I've not used one over my face even when it was -5°C, but do so frequently when cycling. In fact today was a 'two-buff' day when I went for a cylcle - one under my helmet and one round my neck and face. Here a video showing you how to wear one:

You can buy other brands. Search for multi-functional headwear.

Meant to say: " I've not used one over my face when running..."

:D

Now, now. I have just two. And I'm not on commission. But I do like them (not for looks, but for versatility and warmth). One is a plain buff (ie slice off a tube of fabric) the other has a polar fleece band at one end and can convert into a fleece beanie. For what they are, they so seem a bit expensive though.

Can't find the video, but in the search I did find an earlier blog of mine from week 7 where my pace was 5kph (yes, very very slow) - so it made me all the more pleased about today's run where I kept up 6.7 kph for 35 minutes.

Funnily enough it wasn't cold here today - for once I was actually quite hot, and used the buff to try to shade my face from the sun!
