Gah! Garmins.

This morning, I woke with a fire in my belly. It was time to break my 5k PB.

I headed out and with every step, I was trying to push a little without pushing too much. I was making great time, my average pace was quicker than what I've been running these past few months, I felt good.

It was dark, roads were quiet and it was drizzling, perfect running conditions for me.

I was at about 4k into the run and I thought I'd check my progress, pressed the light button on the garmin, but it didn't light up and then the horror struck me...

I had pressed STOP instead of the light button. D'oh! I instantly started it again but I knew, deep down, that the Garmin wouldn't register it as a PB because I had stopped (even though I didn't physically stop running.

Sooo... Is there anyway I can edit my run in Garmin Connect to remove the bit where I stopped & started the run for it to then register?

Also, FYI, according to the Garmin, if I hadn't stopped it, my 5k time would have been 31:25 which nearly shaves a minute off my previous PB of 32:19.

Oh no! I have made similar mistakes with mine before - gutting! :(

I think what I did was calculate the two together and then enter it manually and set it as a PB.

Brilliant time though! Hope I wake up with that fire tomorrow :D

Today I also wish to edit my Garmin record as I forgot to press stop and let it carry on recording as I wandered around the Co-op in Broadford, Skye as I looked for my hubby and sat in the car changing my running shoes!

I don't know how to do, but will ask my son when he gets in tonight as he's used various Garmins for years. I can edit the record for my hand-held Garmin Oregon that I use for hiking and biking, but that shows you all the hundreds of waypoints it records for the entire track.

On the satellite view it looks like I've indulged in a wee spot of Parkour and run over the roof of the supermarket building! Oh, and the public toilets as well!

Ooooo - how do you edit a garmin oregon record? I know it's possible but I haven't figured that out yet, and it would be very handy, if it's not too tricky to explain - or maybe there's a good weblink? I've tried googling, but end up finding loads of other things I wasn't looking for!

On Garmin Basecamp copy the track you wish to amend from your device to Basecamp. Click Show on Map, then scroll in to the part of the track you wish to delete. Double click on the track on the map at the point you wish to cut the record. The list of waypoints shows up. Click again on the track on the precise point you wish (an amber circle appears on the track on the map) and the corresponding Index number is highlighted on the log.

Highlight all the Index point you wish to delete (Ctrl + Shift). Left click and hit delete on the drop down list.

Thanks for that. I haven't used basecamp (can't remember why - I did find it) but have been using google earth. However, reading your description of what to do in basecamp made me think of something to try on google earth, and I've worked out how to delete bits of the route. So thank you very much.

Mrqwest, I've just found out you can edit Garmin Forerunner records on Garmin Basecamp as I've explained to greenlegs. I've just edited my record from today's run (deleted final 10mins) and when I did a Manual Upload to Garmin Connect is showed all the laps and route correctly.

You can join tracks on Garmin Basecamp. Upload both tracks to Basecamp and copy then from your Forerunner to the Basecamp file (ie they open in the lower part of the screen under the heading Devices, you need to move them from the memory to your computer). Click on the two tracks to highlight them both, then left clik > Advanced > Join the selected tracks.

The new track can then be exported to your desktop and uploaded to Garmin Connect. Highlight the track and on the File menu from the top tool bar, select Export.

oh nice, thanks Swanscot. I've never ever heard of Basecamp. I'm downloading now so hopefully it'll work nice and I get can an edited version onto Connect :)

Oh, and I didn't have permission to view that screenshot, but thank you anyway!

Oh, just changed the settings to public now, so you should be able to see it if you wish.

Oh no, I was mistaken; it doesn't show the splits after manual uploading. The graphs and player are still there, but it only shows the whole route as one lap :-(
