Great week, niggle gone...

Well I changed my training regime just over two weeks ago and it has been great, this week consisted of a normal 5k (Tempo), followed by an interval session and finally today an 8K easy run.

The thing i noticed this week is that a niggle i've had in my upper right leg for weeks completely disappeared this week, so I feel great and I'm definately attributing it to the change of training regime.

Another thing I noticed was my diet (myfitnesspal) is going really well and I only have 1lb to go to be back to my pre quitting smoking weight, I'll still be 2.5 stone over weight, but I've still shed the two stone I gained when I quit 26 monts ago and the christmas weight and more.

Also you can't beat a run on the beach and the splashing through the small puddles left when the sea goes out ;-) bit cold but makes you feel like a kid again

Thanks to the blogs for the audiofuel recommendations, I loved the pyramid interval session i used this week and the one I used today, loved them both, thanks, would highly recommend.

Here's to 8.75k easy run next week. I'm loving these long easy runs, not long til I reach the magic 10k :D

For those interested my garmin fo last week.

Fantastic Phil! Just what I needed to hear. I made pretty much the same changes but have yet to try the audiofuel despite hearing good things. After your glowing report I might give it a try :) Also great to hear that the change in training is having such a positive effect on you niggles. Great post thx :)

Hope the changes are working for you also.

Those stats are very impressive, the new training regime definitely sounds like its working. I really hope I can make a start on mine, the snow and ice we've had has scuppered my best laid plans... :-( Your progress is making me eager to get cracking!

I see you're in the north east, was in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and you have definately had more than your far share of snow...sure it will be better this week as long as you don't mind the rain!!

Thanks Phil, the rain is washing it away as I type... Luckily I'm one of those people who enjoys running in rain as it cools me down. :-)

Very interesting post. I love the idea of running along the beach through puddles - it sounds good fun!

What a lovely post to read Phil - you sound very contented with your running and weight loss at the moment - well done for getting to such a stage (I can't get my head round long, easy runs yet - still struggling with 5k).

I had a look at the Garmin links - how lovely to be able to run by the sea. I hope the weather stays calm for you! I miss the North-West!

Long and easy runs, I understand the misnomer but I promise they will come, it's when you realise that it's better for you if you run a little slower sometimes. Take care and enjoy your running adventures :-)

How did you find the interval sessions? You're very brave to do them in such a public place!

in reply to mark909

It was earlish and a cold morning, not many people about!

I absolutely loved it, but needed to walk a little after the later intervals as I pushed it so hard, but I believe all the gain is in the recovery, so hay ho.

Thanks for mentioning pyramid training on one of your blogs, because it's a nice short session, that leaves you feeling great but knackered.

Yes I found it hard going and reckon I could be heard gasping for breath at least a km away! I had a few odd looks when doing it which is why I thought you were so brave to do it in a public place! After I had done a few sessions I found I was able to maintain a higher pace for longer on the tempo runs so they really do work.
