Went for a run outside on sunday and only just managed it - was following the stepping stones podcast.
I personally find it harder outside than on the treadmill although had to take my mp3 player and run to my own music tonite on the treadmill as ipod was low on battery - ran for 25 minutes in total beginning with a 5 mins warm up then ran for 5 mins then walked for 3 mins then ran continually until I had run 25 mins in total followed by three minute cool down.
Its not taken me long to be able to run for 25 mins or more - though it would have taken longer after three weeks break for xmas.
Well done Ebony. Yes, those doing the course on a treadmill deceive themselves. It is harder outside because you are working under your own steam, not aided by the treadmill. Stick to outside if you can-you will gain more from it
I definitely find it harder (physically) outside, but treadmill running is so tedious I struggle mentally to keep going without constantly checking the time. While doing the original podcasts, I tended to set the treadmill to a slightly higher speed than I'd run outside, to compensate, but that doesn't work so well when doing the C25K+ set, since you're supposed to keep in step with the music. I've seen elsewhere advice that setting the treadmill on a 1-2% incline should compensate for the relative ease, but haven't tried that yet...
Well done on the 25 minutes though - I'm struggling to get my stamina sorted, having spent the past few weeks working on speed!
How do you run to these music podcasts?. I find that I can run to the beat of music --IF the beat of said music is in time to the pace at which I want to run. If not, I find the music to be very off-putting. Even with these NHS podcasts, I like Laura -- but find the music to be "out of sorts"
