Another enforced rest

Yes I'm injured AGAIN. Having just got back into the swing of things from my last injury. I have recovered (twice now) from pes anserine bursa, I took things slowly and gradually build my time up over a couple of week. Last Saturday I had a good 5k run, took 2 days rest and ran again on Tuesday. I had a bit of a twinge down the right side of my right knee, I iced and stretched. I then ran on Thursday I decided to 4k and give myself 2 days rest until the 5k charity run booked for Sunday. Well Thursdays run wasn't good, I found it hard going, my legged twinged, everything felt heavy and my leg didn't feel better when I stopped.

I have a bruise-like pain below and to the right of my right knee, and my leg feels heavy, a bit of internet research and I think it is the iliotibial band. I've been icing and stretching, but I'm not recovered enough to do tomorrows charity 5k. I was so looking forward to it :(

I'm going to make a podiatrist appointment, I think part of my problem is that I have a shorter left leg and wear an orthotic in my left shoe, I'm now thinking that I probably need one in my right shoe as well to bring my arch up.

I've been out for a brisk walk with the dog this morning, a lovely frosty morning, the muddy fields were so much easier to walk on today as the mud was frozen.

I think you're right to seek specialist advice, they should sort you out.

It is disappointing and frustrating to miss a race - I had to do so due to injury - but there will be other races and you want to sort out all your injury problems in the early stages so that you can still be enjoying running in many years time.

You may find a foam roller helps with IB pain.

Best wishes for a quick recovery.

It is best to get specialist advise if the injury is reoccurring, hopefully they will be able to sort it out for you. Wish you a speedy recovery and hope you will be running races again soon :-)
