Will my knees stop hurting?

Did w2r3 yesterday. Have been pain free up to now but yesterday, as soon as I started running, my knees hurt. Sort of inside my knee at the bottom. Doesn't feel muscular. Is this runners knee? Why has it only started now? Will it go away? I'd be so gutted if I had to stop running.

Exactly the same problem i had and ended up having to take a week off it got so bad.

Are you using the Podcast ?? Laura's advice to concentrate landing on the hells on Week 2 nearly crippled me, so if you are doing that DON'T !! IMO.

I took a week off then went back to jogging without thinking about it and my knees are way better today, slight ache but maybe they weren't fully healed.

But just naturally land on your feet, don't force the heels if that's what you were doing.

Pop some ice packs on them for about 10 mins, no longer than 20. Also Ibubrufen will help ;)

I had sore knees for a short while in the early weeks, but spent a few days doing lots of knee strengthening exercise I found via google, and also repeated one week for various reasons - but after that they felt much better. Maybe it was just chance, maybe it was routine hurt/healing, maybe the exercises and lack of increased challenge helped.

Hope yours feel better soon!

Most of your pain may be caused by using muscles at the beginning of the program. Try ice and an anti inflammatory. If it continues, you may need to decide if it is muscle pain from using muscles not used for awhile or if it is an injury pain. Trainers can also make a difference. I fight a knee issue almost every run. I purchased a knee brace which keeps my knee aligned as I run. It helps me greatly, in fact, I'm nervous about attempting a run without it. Good luck to you! Thanks for your comments.......it's great that you are all so helpful and supportive.I will stick with it but take it easy as I don't want to make it worse. Next run isn't until Tuesday so am hoping it will have eased by then.

Are you running on the road/footpaths? Have you had gait analysis? Maybe try offroad running for a little while as it doesnt have as much impact on your joints as tarmac

Absolutely as Mark says, avoid tarmac it is hellish on legs and back.

Once the runs got a little longer my knees started feeling a bit niggly so I started leaving an extra days between runs. That keeps the pain at bay and also allows me time to do other active stuff which, in turn, keeps me motivated. Good luck! :)

Well I did the first run of week three today and all is okay so far......even managed to run up the stairs when I got to work :-) I bought some gel pads for my heels and ran on grass which seemed to make a big difference! Thanks everyone!
