I went out this morning with the aim of running 5k in preparation for a race next weekend. I planned my route, which instead of my usual going between two bridges for two and a half laps was to include a further bridge to increase the distance.
The run went well, but I found that the vista to the new bridge was a long straight avenue, and I found seeing the distance in front of me quite daunting. I usually find that if I don't need ventolin within the first 500m I'm fine. However, today, coming back along this avenue, and approaching 4.5k, I found my self coughing quite hard, and constantly clearing my throat, so I took two puffs, and it all went away in minutes. At that I decided to keep on to 6k, which meant running back to where I started, and beyond to my first bridge. Then I remembered that Runkeeper said that my longest run was 6 something, but I couldn't remember what, so I kept on to 6.5k. At that point I decided that it was best to be sure, and 7k took me back to the exact starting point. I had no idea how long I was out, and I did it music free. Garmin told me that I did 7.11k in 1.02.01.
On the down side, my hip was hurting through the run. Not as much as it did last winter when the joint burnt when I ran, but a constant ache. I think that my weekend run will be after a two day rest, and maybe the short speed podcast, and then another long run on Tuesday, and a short one on Thursday, before the 5k race on Sunday. If anyone is interested in doing it it's here 5kredrun.co.uk/
Being music free meant that my thoughts could wander, and knowing that Delia is in London, I wondered if she were running at the same time, and if she pronounces her name Dayl-E-ah, or Dee-lee-ah.
