Speed again, even with a sleepy leg.

So, the sleepy leg, that's got you wondering....

I was at the computer Sunday night, I sit with my legs crossed (bad I know, but more comfy). When I got up my left leg had gone to sleep, you know that feeling, not quite pins and needles-y, seems a bit numb and too short to reach the ground properly. Not a problem, it happens, give it a few minutes and it will be OK.

Well it wasn't. I woke up Monday morning (late!!! Oh no! Managed to get to work on time) and my leg was still sort of numb-ish. Walking to work I was very flat footed on the left, it was slapping down onto the pavement, must have looked like a 5-year-old in half a huff (a whole huff would have been slapping down both feet while walking).

Well, I wasn't letting it disrupt my routine. I went to the gym and stretched really well after.

Bedtime, sleepy time, alarm, don't want to get up, must get up, leg feeling a bit better but still not back to normal. Treadmill run is booked for first thing Tuesday mornings, not enough time before work to go out for a run.

Speed+ using W1 podcasts, running fast when I should be recovery walking. I managed a total run of 16 minutes, 8.5 minutes of which were fast running. I was definitely running lopsided though but I only scuffed the toe of my left trainer once, so better than yesterday.

Let's hope it's better by Thursday morning for an outside run as I don't want to be running to the left all the time.

And I'm sat here with my legs crossed again......

You need to watch sitting like that as it doesn't just affect your leg. When we first purchased a nintendo Wii, I stood on the board for a balance test and it said my balance was out probably due to sitting in a chair with you're legs crossed. How it knew that I will never know, but it was absolutely true. I used to suit for extended periods of time cross legged at a computer and clearly it can affect posture. Let Mr sleepy leg be an early warning to start sitting correctly.

Yes, I've read in various places that the way you can sit can affect your posture and even your running gait and make you more prone to injury. I'm pretty terrible for sitting in odd positions at my desk (trying to train myself not to sit on my foot !) but balance in everything is beneficial, even to the extent of trying not to always carry your shopping on one side (or even your handbag). It's very hard to change these habits but even little improvements should help.

Sitting with your legs crossed alters your balance (and thus your Wii fit age etc) because you become used to one hip being above the other. It also twists your spine, which isn't good either. I do know these things, but still find it hard not to do them. Though I am now making a conscious effort to uncross my legs, it's quite scary how often they do it of their own volition and I don't notice!
