I went to a park run on Saturday and had to drop out after 500m because I was coughing too much. So since then I have upped my inhaler steroid a bit and today tried the stamina podcast for the first time. I ran with my HRM on, and could see that my HR was about 140bpm when I was running at 150bpm, and 150bpm running at 160bpm. The last five minutes at 165bpm came as a bit of a shock as I thought that the run was over. I covered just over 4k in the 35 minutes, and comparing it to my 45 minute post graduation run I can see that I am very slightly faster.
I found the run hard, but not unachievable, but if that was stamina god help me when I try speed!
Delores you kindly left a comment on my blog - having read yours, I was just wondering if you had tried the stepping stones podcast and if so what you think of it?
I also have asthma - and average about the same times as you- but dont have a HRM- do I need one to do the stamina podcast?
as ever many thanks for your thoughts
I haven't tried stepping stones. Where can I find it?
One of the reasons I bought a Garmin with a HRM was because I know I'm slow, even for my age (age grading website here runningforfitness.org/calc/... ), but I wanted to know objectively how hard I was working my body. The stamina podcast kept my average heart rate slightly lower than usual, which I guess means I could go on for longer.
Hold on, are the 5k+ podcasts I'm suing the stepping stones ones?
