Can anyone recommend the best watch/device for running?
I'm mainly running on a treadmill, but have done a few outdoor runs. What I'm struggling with is knowing how fast/far I've gone - can anyone recommend a decent watch/app for an android that I could use to help me with this? Thanks!
I have used the app run keeper on my phone, which is fantastic....but I recently bought myself a garmin watch....it tells you pace, distance and heart rate.....it is brilliant
Thanks for this - will definitely look at the garmin. Need something easy and simple to use!
I have the garmin forerunner 110. basic garmin watch but has everything you need for outdoors. shows pace & distance (whilst you are running!) & you can get a seperate heart rate monitor to keep an eye on heart rate. quite pricey, over £100 I think just for the watch but you can pick them up on ebay & amazon are always varying the prices, just have to keep checking in. bought mine with hr monitor off ebay for under £75 so was lucky with price.
I dont have android on anything so couldnt help with an app but I think mapmyrun.com is good for plotting how far your run was, or to plot a run to get an idea of distance.
good luck moving outdoors. I did all of c25k indoors & now wouldnt choose indoors over outdoors, whatever the weather
thanks for the advice - I'll look at the garmin on amazon and ebay - I have heard good things about them.
If you buy something like a garmin and want to track runs on a treadmill rather than outside you will need one with a foot pod which doesnt rely on gps so maybe a garmin forerunner 60, 70 or 210.
Thanks! Garmin seems to be popular....
I use runkeeper on my android phone.
Interestingly noticed that a mile seems to be a moveable feast when comparing maps along the same route.....
I am just contemplating what to buy too. I've been looking at either a garmin 110 or the new ipod nano as they come with nike+ but not sure if that would be accurate. Decisions, decisions...
I've been using rundouble on android. Its a pretty good app updated frequently its free for the first few runs and then a reasonable 99p for the full app. It has full mapping and tracking pretty handy although the GPS data is slightly questionable at times but does give you an idea of your pace and distance.
Thanks! Had lots of helpful answers on this site - will look into everything!
Hi MotherGoose - sorry, only just seen your post... have you found sports-tracker.com? They have a free download for android and it measures absolutely everything you can think of, even altitude. I have both C25K and sports tracker on my phone and start them both before setting off. When I get back I just save the session and it syncs with the website (you can even social share it if you want...). On both the phone and the website you then have a log of all your workouts whether it be cycling, running, hiking etc. etc. - AND IT'S FREEEEE. See what you think and good luck, Sara
Hi Mother i use the Mapmyrun App on my Android phone. It seems reasonably accurate and you can change it between runs, cycling and walking etc before you start.
I'm an Endomondo fan which is an app for the Android. All the information you could want and the pro version is only 25p. Having said this I'm hoping to swap to a watch soon but only for convenience.
Thanks - am looking at watches for the same reason really - the apps look good too but not always consistent.
Someone suggested to me the new Garmin Forerunner 10 which has just or is about to come out. I've been hoping to get a Garmin but they seem so expensive. The 10 costs much less (around £94) but appears to have everything I'd need at my level. I'm waiting now for Father Christmas to be nice to me!
I've been looking at this one too, just had some birthday money so am seriously considering it....
The Nike Sportband at £41 will work great for indoors, and just as well for outdoors as this relies on a footpod. It is also really simple to work. It came out as the best buy when tested against some very expensive models when tested by the gadget show in their Christmas gadget best buys last year.
Thanks - I haven't heard of this; will look into it as well!
then stick it to the front of the treadmill and watch it while I run or 2) A device that can play audio...
C25k and I have just done week 2 run 2 so starting week 3 soon. Hope someone can help as I don't want to...
getting a GPS running watch, not to expensive. I would be interested to hear what others recommend please....
