1 week without running – due to right knee - update

It’s been one week since my last update when after my W6R2 my right knee could not take any weight when I stood up. I have been resting it as much as possible, occasional cold water compresses on the knee. I am walking with a slight limp as its not 100% I think it is nowhere near recovered enough to try a run. The annoying thing is the mornings I usually run (Sunday, Wednesday and Friday) the weather has been good. I never thought that 7 weeks ago when I started the C25K having not done any exercise for 30 odd years that I would be so frustrated about not being able to run and continue on my target to graduate from the C25K program. I am hoping once my knee is better that going to be analysed and fitted for some running shoes to suit my gait / style will prevent the knee problem returning. One thing that keeps me motivated is reading about everyone else on here all aspects the triumphs, the setbacks, the recovery stories they are all inspirational.

  • My heart goes out to you. I too have a dodgy knee, and have been hobbling around since Saturday. Looking back I know I over did it and starting running too soon and too much after knee played up before. I'm seeing a physio on Thursday, so hopefully I'll come away knowing how long I should rest and how gradually I can get back into it. I now drive past runners and feel jealous because I can't run at the moment.

Sorry to hear you are in the same situation I hope your visit to the physio is successful and you are soon on your way to recovery. I know how you feel when driving the car and see people running I have exactly the same thoughts

  • It sounds as though you're having a rotten time of it, exwightman! Once the runs started to get longer my knee started to niggle a bit so I decided to have two rest days instead of one and this stopped it getting worse. Now I've graduated (waiting for the badge!) and, touch wood, have no problems! Be patient, you want to be fit to run until you're ancient, so look after yourself!

  • Thanks oona. Yes patience is what I need now as I know if I start running too soon it will do more harm than good. Just a pity the weather has been good on the mornings I normally run, if it had been raining I could say Oh well I wouldn’t have gone for a run anyway. Sorry if that disappoints any hardy runners I am not into running in all weathers yet!
