W8R1 - Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good

After the warm up courtesy of Mick and the boys (Start me up). I clicked Endomondo and Led Zep reminded me that "Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good". The Levee Breaking seemed appropriate as I battled through the autumnal wind and rain.

When I was making up the play list last night I was aware of just how many songs I was having to fit in to take me to 28 minutes but the run started well, I settled into a slow but easy rhythm. The second running song was equally long, Pink Floyd's - Have a cigar and the method in my madness was that I knew I'd be somewhere close to half way by the time these two were finished.

I wasn't far off and when I activated someone's security light for the second time Warren Zevon was appropriately singing about the dangers of Werewolves in London. The only shallow hill of the run was not as hard as I'd imagined it might be the second time around and as Stevie Windwood's Higher Love gave way to Dexy's Midnight runners Come on Eileen I startled the only other person I saw on this dark, damp, windy morning; a dog walker who I smiled at and said good morning to though I doubt she could see my smile by the light of the street lamps.

It was now getting hard and not helped by the same puddle I'd stepped in the first time around. I knew that when Men at work had finished waxing lyrical about their beloved antipodean home land (an excellent band whatever happened to them ?), I'd have 30 seconds of silence to go before 28 minutes were up. By the time I'd finished messing with the Android to get it to show me how long I'd got left I'd run for 28 minutes and 37 secs.

Job done tick.

I'm trying not to think about it but yes, it does feel like the final straight is close.

Brilliant blog, Chewy, and well done on your exemplary run!! See, we told you it would be OK! I agree about Men At Work, there is something so laid back, understated and typically Aussie about their stuff (I lived in Oz for 6 years, loved it but was still homesick for the cold, rainy, expensive UK). Must put Come on Eileen on my playlist, an all time feel good song if ever there was one!

Hey, the count- down begins - 5 runs left till you graduate!

Thanks Soozz, it did feel good which makes up for the earlier crash and burn.

I can imagine 'Come on Eileen' is a good one to run to with those fast fiddles. Good to read the minutes flew by, you're so close to graduating now I'll look forward to reading that blog. :-)

You're absolutely right, you do have to disengage the running pace from the song beat.

Well done Chewy! Did my W8R1 last night too and that badge is now well within reach - who would have thought?! Come on Chew-ey.....

Who would have thought it, certainly not me :) I don't want to tempt fate so I'll focus on one run at a time but it's tempting to look forwards.

> Dexy's Midnight runners Come on Eileen

No why isn't that song on my 101 running songs CD? (Well, it may be, I just haven't heard it come up on my mp3 player when on shuffle).

You are getting sooooo close Chewy!!! :-) Happy to see you made it back home safe and sound. There really is no place like home! :-) I'm getting the wine set to chill and going shopping for party hats...I see a grad party coming up in the very near future! :-)

Chewy - how did I miss this blog??? You're doing so great. Literally only 5 more runs to go. You know I struggled mightily with weeks 7 and 8 but week 9 is better I promise. Keep at it; you're so close now! And your musical tips are awesome. I LOATHE the music on the podcasts now but daren't run without Laura. I may just have to purchase that rather fabulous collection of some good old faves on amazon. How could you not be inspired running to the rocky theme?
