As usual, I want to run before I can walk (pun intended)

So, I'm stuck here with my box of tissues, my benylin and paracetamol, oh and my broken toe - great week :-( What is there for a girl to do. Part of me is still basking in the glory of my W6R3 last Monday, but it's fast becoming a distant memory, so I thought I'd keep up my enthusiasm and browse the running sites for tips on the longer runs I'm doing now. Maybe even check out some organised runs or new routes to try. What did I find?

Apart from the parkruns, which look great, and I will definitely sign up for them when I'm recovered, I found something really exciting.

Amazing.

Scary.

Impossible.

Challenging.

Tempting.

Oh no, could I really do the London to Brighton? "Bike ride?" I hear you ask. No. RUN :-o

100K of running, or mix of running and walking (yes, that was one hundred km). Well, I don't know if I could ever run 100K (on pretty hilly terrain and they expect you to do it in less than 15 hours), but I had been thinking about doing the L2B off road cycle race, which is apparently pretty gruelling, so why not do this. It could be really exciting.

Life changing.

Scary.

Amazing.

So, do you fancy joining me? What a case study/PR story for NHS if a bunch of C25Kers completed 100K of walking and running a year or so on............

When is it? If it's over 8 months away - count me in! I live halfway between London and Brighton (ish). Am gonna do the Tunbridge Wells Circular walk in 2 weeks time (27 miles) - but over two days. Want to do the Brighton marathon in 2013, but would love to aim for something a bit more radical.

Wow, a taker! Great :-) It's in May, so doesn't quite fit your timeframe, but maybe you could squeeze it in? london2brightonchallenge.com/

I've already been asked to do this Ultra by the Walk the Walk organisation because I've power walked marathons in the past but I've decided against it because I know that my knees won't take more than 8 hours walking any more.

As for running 2½ marathons in less than 15 hours?? Now that IS radical and definitely not for novices. I'll be lucky if I can complete a half marathon next year :)

just to clarify, I won't be running the 100K. My loosely thought through plan (ha, there really wasn't a 'plan', more of an idea at this stage) was to mix it up with some running and walking, based on the fact that my cardio and muscular strength could be reasonably good by then. They allow the mixed or walkers up to 30 hours to finish, I'd like to think it could be done reasonably in about 20 or so (given the undulating terrain), which could include some runnying down hills, a la 'sound of music' and walking the rest...... :-o
