My W7R2 was due to take place when I was on holiday. A short trip away with friends began with a 12km hike in beautiful sunshine and gorgeous scenery. This was a non-run day, so I didn't worry about over doing things. On a particularly steep bit, I slipped and fell; grazing both knees badly. I already had a few bad bruises on my legs, so these new blood/dust covered knees completed the look of a 7 year old child!
I decided to run the next day, and chose the morning time as it was slightly cooler and I knew I wouldn't have gone out in the evening when my friends were cracking open the wine!
My morning runs are a lot slower and labourious than evening runs, but this one had added difficulties...HILLS! I neglected to explain that my chosen holiday spot had sooooo many hills and the downhill parts were just as bad as the uphill! I tried to find some relatively flat sections, but as soon as I'd ran 10 metres, it turned into a steep uphill or downhill which left me drained. I found a small lake, which I ran a few laps round, but got bored and tried to return to the hills. This didn't work so well, so I finished my last 8 minutes running round and round the lake. Not ideal, but constantly thinking of where to run next, and being distracted by the beautiful scenery really made the run go in quicker.
Again, I had felt like I could not run for 5 mintues at the beginning of the run, but just ignored my brain's protests and completed the run very slowly. I must admit to walking a few steps at around minute 21 just before I returned to the lake, but I ran for an extra 30 seconds at the end to make up for it.
I'm glad to get that one under my belt and will run a new route with my own playlist for W7R3 tomorrow. I'll be glad of my long tights to hide all my cuts and bruises!
