What pace do people run at?

Really pleased to have completed Week6R2 having never thought I'd get this far. I run on a treadmill so can control my pace closely and wondered what sort of speeds people tend to run at. My settings are walking at 4mph and running at 5mph (occasionally 5.5). Do these speeds seem about average for most ex-couch potatoes?

Hi I just started week 4 and also use the treadmill. Your speed is the same as mine. I sometimes go to 5.2 but so far I have not gone above that speed, I'm to scared to..

If that speed is working for you, then that's fine. It's all about building the stamina to exercise vigorously for 30-40 minutes and you can start building pace after graduation. I had to slow right down to manage 30 minutes run by week 9 but I still had some left in the tank to complete 5k by running through my cool down walk so don't worry if you can't keep your present pace up for the next long runs. You're doing fine :)

For a snail like me, that sounds fast. ;) I usually walk at 3.2 mph and run at 3.6 mph on the treadmill. The important point is to run at a pace you feel comfortable with. You may find you need to go a bit slower to complete some of the longer runs, so it might be a good idea to start out a little slower on W6,R3. If you are finding it easy, you can always up your pace. It's better than starting out too fast and running out of puff before you complete the run. Best of luck. :)
