I haven't run in the heat for ages, as there hasn't been any, so today was a bit of a struggle. We had to arrive an hour before the start so I was proper hot by the time we started running. It was also on grass and a bit boggy in places. The longer grass was hard to run on too. I stopped to walk about 4 times which really wasn't what I had in mind, needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I am not sure if I really tried as hard as I could or if it was just the heat that was too much. There was a killer hill that I would have walked on regardless of the weather. That said I finished in 47.51 and was so greatful to my two daughters that ran with me, one wasn't feeling well and the other who has long legs and struggled to go slow enough with me! It was also great to have the rest of my family cheering us on and taking much footage on their phones to let me cringe over afterwards.
Going forward, running through grass will make my runs harder, I also intend going through the podcasts again slow jogging and sprinting in the jogging bits for the early weeks.

Heat makes it hard work and running on boggy ground and in long grass means your legs have to work a lot harder - you'll have been lifting up your feet more. Don't be hard on yourself, you've done well !
You beat me to it - was just going to say was this at Pontefract! I was there yesterday and I struggled and ended up walking bits that I hadnt expected to, Glad I wasnt alone!
Were you doing R4L at Pontefract? My race sounded a carbon copy of yours - we had sun, heat and a fierce wind to contend with as well as long grass and boggy ground! I finished at around 49 minutes and I also had to walk in a couple of places. I felt really disappointed too!
No, mine was in reading and the hill is something you would scramble up. Not sure why there were so many spectators there, nobody was running. We didn't have the wind quite like you though.
Feeling a little less sorry for myself today. I think if we had had a couple of runs in sunny weather before it might have helped.
Same here, I go first thing in the morning when its cooler and I think it was the heat that made me struggle, I was scarlet when we'd finished and gasping!! Definately not looking my best ha! x
