I had been running really well, nothing fast just increasing my distance when I locked 2 vertebrae in my neck. What made this particularly upsetting was that I had worked really hard to get ready for a 10k that was on 4 days later. I couldn't run for 3 weeks and I have to be honest and say i found it hard to0 get motivated. I had built it up ready for this race and then had to cancel 4 days before.
I am happy to say that I have started again and done 3 5km runs in the last week. Before the injury I was working at getting to 10km. I now want to get my 5km time down from 7min/km to under 6 and then I will start extending the distance again.
I was really poor on my run tonight, not the best preparation beforehand as my mum was over and we had jerk chicken and pork with rice and peas so i had to wait until 8:30pm to go out and on a heavy stomach. It started well, taking 19 secs of last weeks first km and 4 off the second but went downhill from there until i was 4 seconds behind going into the last km. I decided I had to go for it to prove to myself what I was capable of. I managed to turn the 4 loss into a 3 second gain and felt sooooo good afterwards. As Harvey said - mind over matter, if u don't mind, it don't matter. And that is my mantra.
Happy running everyone and remember - don't ever give up!!
