My first 10k and other running adventures

Hello all, it's been awhile hope everyone is still running and smiling. I've been busy busy with lots of new running achievements to share :D

Last Tuesday I did my first 10k race at Aberdeen beach. It was a fairly casual event organised by a local running shop, around 250 people came along to the exposed and freezing esplanade. I was terrified when I turned up as there seemed to be a lot of "serious" runners all limbering up - I overheard two woman talking about training for a 54mile ultra marathon!!

Anyway off we went and it didn't take long to get warmed up despite quite a strong wind. The course was up and down the length of the beach twice so not all that inspiring and quite disheartening seeing the front runners sprinting past you in the opposite direction! I was quite happy with my pace as I managed to keep consistent the entire race and even managed to speed up in the last few km. My time was 65min30secs which I'm very happy with as I was expecting to come in a good 5 or 10 mins slower. I was 236th out of 245 runners...well it's not last haha!

I also had a chance to run the St Andrews parkrun a few weekends ago as I was visiting family in the area. It's set in a lovely big country park and I really enjoyed myself. Even managed a new PB 5k time of 30:29 - still can't get below that damn 30mins!

Off to Portugal for some sun last Wednesday so had a run along the beach one day, was a nice change in temperature from running along the Scottish coast!

Now that my family know I'm a runner (apparently) I'm getting invites to runs all the time. Sister in law wants me to do a 10k with her in August and just had a email from mum about a 9k fun run this weekend. Phew it's exhausting but all good practice for the big half marathon!
