I'm due to go and do W2 R2 this evening and its forecast to be awful weather, pouring it down. I would like to still go out this evening and wondered how you guys stay motivated to go out in less than ideal weather conditions?

I've been very lucky as it hasn't rained once on any of my runs! If it was, I would think about how much better I'll feel for going and how I'll be concentrating on the run and won't notice the rain anyway.

thanks for replying, ive been lucky too up till today. I'm sure its probably a mental thing. I am concerned if I dont go i might be using the rain as an excuse not to go!

I love the rain - it saves me pouring water on my head and neck to stay cool. Overheating is my biggest problem. Anyway, think how cosy you will feel when you get home, have a hot shower and change.

Strangely I quite like the rain! I like the drips on my face when Iam getting hot and bothered! It definitely cools me down. :)

I've ran in the rain a couple of times. I think the thought of going out in the rain is actually worse than doing it. I just put on a thin jacket and went for it. Give me rain to run in any day rather than the scorching weather we had a couple of weeks ago! I'd say just go for it, you never know you might enjoy it.

I agree, I'd much rather have a rainy run than a hot sunny run. I feel like such a hero if I've been running and its pi***ng down, because I know that 7 weeks ago I'd be on the couch, under a duvet with a hot Choc getting fat and unhealthy whereas now...bring it on.

Prefers to run in rain rather than hot day as the rain keeps me cool and it also motivates me to run just that lil bit quicker.

I hate the rain - mostly because it gets on my glasses and makes it hard to see. Many people enjoy the rain - certainly when you are warmed up and wt through you don't notice the rain itself.

Just go and do it - its only 30 minutes and you can get showered and into some dry clothes.

Strangely enough, I find it quite enjoyable to run in the rain once I've warmed up a little. It helps to keep me cool! And I hate exercising when it's hot so the rain is a welcome change to the heat that we've had not too long ago! Give it a go and see, you might like it!

Hi! I always thought it'd be horrible to run in rain! Had to take my chances this weekend though, typical awful bank holiday weather! :-) It was lovely and refreshing and made for a very enjoyable run! I went uphill for 4km, not sure I'd have done that without being cooled off by the rain! :-)) Try it, you might love it!

I like running in the rain too! I try to go out in the gap between showers so usually I get the 5 minute warm-up walk done and started my run before it rains - then I tell myself I've started now so no point in going home. One of my most enjoyable runs was in torrential rain/hail - def much better than running in the heat.

I dont mind running in the rain tbh! I find it nice and cooling.

I wear a "proper" running cap with a big peak . I do run without my specs (as they steam up anyway whether its wet or dry!).

It rained just about every day in April up here in NE Scotland so got more than used to it. Its quite refreshing and makes me go quicker too. 8-)

I hate running in the rain too. What do you wear when you go out in it? I tried a waterproof jacket once and that was a mistake!

I did my first run in 'real' rain yesterday (actually pouring down rather than a bit of drizzle) I was surprised it was not too bad. I borrowed OH's rainproof jacket and baseball cap to keep the rain off my specs. It was great. The wet meant there was hardly anyone about, so it was just me and Laura, (singing - er, no I didn't go that far) - in the rain.

Love the rain. Did 4 consecutive runs a few weeks back and got soaked each time. Great feeling of achievement when you get in and then having a shower and a dry set of clothes makes you feel great. Try running in all conditions and then think about which you like least. For me it's when it's hot (anything over about 23 degrees), really easy to overheat and takes ages to cool down. Dog loves the rain too on my runs but he is a springer, loves the water and is bonkers. Just go for it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. One tip, wear a cap to keep the water out of your eyes, it stings a bit when mixed with the sweat.

thanks for all posts, well i went but it was more dirizzle then proper rain. will not let it put me off though - i think it would be a slipery slope for me to use the weather as an excuse!

I ran in a lightweight fleece and then took it off when i got warmed up. i have a lightweight waterproop jacket but its not a proper running one. if it was realy chucking down i would probably wear it for the warm up only.

If im still running in a couple of weeks with the program i might treat myself to some proper clothing (im only week 2, due to do run 3 tonight)

thanks again guys x

"If you are struggling with motivation, remember that the first step is the hardest. Get out the door and the rest will come easily." This mantra is enormously helpful for me and I have it written on a post it note on my bedside! How sad is that!

i love running in the rain and if youve run in extremely hot weather (yes we did have some) its much more preferable. i run on set days at set times rain or shine so just take what comes to quote nike "just do it"
