How to keep hair out of face?

I have been getting really annoyed with wispy bits of my hair which waft around infront of my face when I'm running, particularly when it's windy. I have started gripping my hair down before I set off, but this can be time consuming, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a band of some kind that keep hair off your face? I bought some headbands at Claire's but they are nothing like tight enough and easily slide off just in normal life, never mind when running! Any recommendations?

I either wear a RonHill running cap - nice long peak to keep rain and sun out of my eyes and soaks up sweat - lovely :-) - or my buff - have a look at

I use a sun visor thats fastened by velcro. not as hot as a hat and you can get it tight enough to keep all your hair back

My hair is uncontrollable at the best of times! I wear a headband I got at asda. It's an elastic one that goes right round your head and is about an inch or so thick. It did come in a double pack but I lost one ages ago.

It doesn't ever come off but I use a couple of kirby grips so it stays in place.

I'm sure there are more high tec things to do but it works for me!

I use a buff that I normally use for walking and stuff - I have quite a big head (haha) so a lot of stuff's really tight on me, but this is really comfortable and works really well. Can be used for lots of things too! You can buy them from any outdoor shop really cotswoldoutdoor.com/index.c...

You can buy them online too.

I didn't even know what a buff was till I read about it on here yesterday, now I fear my life is on pause till I get one!! ;o

At the moment I clip my hair back if its sunny and stick a hat on it if its raining or cold. The hat does get hot though so I also need to invest in a proper running one.

who said running was cheap? i heard you only need running shoes!! I've needed a whole lot more, starting with the scaffolding to support the chest (small mortgage necessary to purchase a good one, I'll rant over that on another blog) ;)

Ha ha! With you on this one, I have had to buy several running bras - always pay thru the nose for my bras due to my small back, large cup (should say mug) size - because I have lost a couple of cms off my back since starting. But then I am a sucker for anything to do with a new hobby so if I were to add up the cost of my clothes, bras, hat, Garmin . . . but I am SO worth it lol!

I'm the same, I call it being prepared ;) I started with 'oh I'll just get trainers and some joggers, oh and a t shirt and I'll be ok'. Then I needed a sports bra, knickers that remain out of my butt crack, a jacket, running leggins, in both long and 3/4 (for varied weather conditions), gloves, hat, socks, high vis vest for running at night, armband for the iphone, Im on my 3rd pair of earphones now, a water bottle, several wicking tops, a vest and a couple of t. shirts..... etc etc

I'm still waiting for a Garmin ;)

I think I'm doing it in reverse - I had the shoes and the garmin before I even started this, but running in old trackie bottoms and cycling tops (at least they are wicking) at the moment and an old Primark sports bra... Admittedly, I decided after the first run I needed new earphones, so that's my first shopping item! By the way, if I ever progress to running leggins, what is the accepted etiquette? With the cyling shorts, it was a case of going commando underneath - does the same apply to leggins? Not very keen on that idea, but otherwise there is always the dreaded VPL issue....

Ooh it hadnt occurred to me to go nicholas! Or is that knicker-less! But then I am a woman of a certain age and a spinster of this parish and have my reputation to think of (imagine needing medical attention and being found wanting in the underwear dept!) Bugger the vpl issue, thats the least of my style transgressions when I am in my running kit!

Hahah! "spinster of this parish". I love that expression. Haven't heard it for years. :)

My big brother used to write that on envelopes when he used to write to me/send birthday cards, as a joke! I now use it when I refer to myself usually to people who know me and know that I dont exactly behave like one!,

I got an elasticated headscarf from Claire's a while ago but I think they discontinued it. You're right, the headbands they sell just aren't strong enough.

I was looking this morning and found this website: glitz4girlz.com/headwraps.html Might be worth a try...

SportsDirect.com have dozens of Buffs, head bands, caps etc prices start at £1.99. Just put in the search box "head bands" you'll get about 6 pages to chose from.
