Hi all, I'm a few weeks into post graduation runs now and I have finally started to run 5k.I managed to get my time down to 39 minutes on wed,so I 'm on track for a park run in early june :) . It looks like a busy month because this week I found myself in the local leisure centre not only joining the gym, but also putting my name down for swimming lessons!. It's something I always wanted to learn (tried a few years ago but gave up) so hopefully, if I can take the confidence that this site has given me in my running into the pool, this time I can do better.Hope you all have good runs this weekend :)

Julie.

Go for it! I didn't learn to swim until I was in my late thirties, and it's one of the best things I've ever done! I was terrified of the water for so long, but watching my daughter learn to swim spurred me on - it's a great feeling to finally be able to swim across the pool.

My next goal is to do a sub-40 minute 5k and then a parkrun like you!

Enjoy the swimming!

I am an avid swimmer and learned as a kid. Spent years at lakes and beach. Here in the states, many of the colleges require you to pass a swimming test before you graduate. You are up to running a 5k in that time which is terrific. Persevere in the same fashion with the swimming. If the instructor and you don't click, find another. It actually could be a matter of survival to learn to swim. Congratulations for making that step. If you are in good enough shape to run a 5k then the swimming will be a breeze. I used to teach kids to swim and we always started in the shallow end with the breathing other elements. I always started them out dog paddling then breast stroke because that was easy and would help them get used to being immersed in the water. The breathing of course was easier too. Don't worry too much on technique at first. Worry about becoming comfortable in the water like you are on land running.

Good for you.

One more thing- I am on my last run of week 7 and have never felt better. Blood pressure pills are gone!! Also, pool opens in a week and plan to get in the water too. Good luck to you!!
