I am on week 8 and still get really sore shins after running. Does anyone know if gait analysis and a different pair of trainers would actually help or is this something I have to put up with?

It's not something you have to put up with. Trainers can make the difference so if you've not already had your gait analysed I'd recommend it.
I still occassionally get shin pain....stretching and compression socks help that too. Lots of posts / blogs about it on here...try some of the stretches in Greg's blog.
Gait analysis will definitely help, no point putting up with pain if you can fix it with better trainers
Its part of the answer if you don't have good ones now but sorry to say there is no magic bullet. However happy to say you absolutely don't have to put up with it
It is, in my experience, a matter of strengthening and making more flexible your whole legs. No rocket science just a bit of time and work but it is the kind of work you can do in front of the telly!
The thing I've noticed (I'm only in week 4) is that a change in posture has helped me. I found that running with my torso more upright and less bent forward had made all the difference. I feel like my legs are doing all the work and I'm more balanced and find it a whole lot easier.
