W2R1(Zombies): Mud, Heel Lifts, And Runner Families

Re-doing my C25k journey, but the Zombie, Run way (Smartphone App: ZR5K).

So got out there this morning, choosing a different route than my usual run-around-the-hill route. This route is a former railway line, so is much less muddy in rainy weather. And it was a great session, with everyone out walking being ultra-friendly and everybody seeming ultra-proud of getting out there in the drizzly rain and fog and cold. Including me!

The Session included a 10 min warm-up walk, which is great for this route, as I have to walk for 10 minutes through the village to get to the wooded path. Then 1 minute walking, 30 seconds running, and 5 heel raises, where you stand and lift yourself onto your toes. Repeat 8 times. And then a last 10 minutes free form, where you can run-walk as you feel fit.

Great session.

Runner hubby actually ran yesterday his W1R3 of the classic NHS C25k, as he revisits running after several injuries. So I cannot call myself the only runner in the family anymore. In fact, after I started running 2 years ago, hubby started running again (but he used to be a cross country runner and is still super-fit, unlike me), but also teenage son started running. So happy to call ourselves a runner family now.

Keep on keeping on everyone.

So cool you have support at home and you’ve clearly inspired everyone else to get stuck in. What a healthy household.

Sounds like a great run. But didn’t you find any police to say hi to on this one? 👮‍♂️👋

I shared ear buds with teenage grandson once and said (quite loudly according to him) “yay we’ve got a base ball bat” and he said “ shh nannie you will scare people”

Well done runner 5! 👍👏👏👏 That looks like a great place to run, is this the place with a little fairy house that you posted ages ago?

It is indeed! I’m not yet reaching the fairy house yet, it will be my reward for reaching 4.5km.

Since posting I’ve put one of my pictures on Wikimedia so anyone can use that image now … and who doesn’t need a fairy house in their articles! 😀 commons.m.wikimedia.org/wik...

I love the look of that run CBDB although I don’t really like being surrounded by trees (they make me feel hemmed in) and the idea of there being zombies lurking as well - no thanks! But you’ve obviously managed to do something to the rest of the family to get them out there as well - great job!

Oh, wow! I love trees! The smell, the sounds, the wildlife , especially in light rain! But being German, I grew up with more forests than In the UK. First 10years in the UK I lived in Glasgow and had to get used to the beautiful but tree-less landscape in the highlands. (When hiking, I’d usually panic seeing no trees to hide behind, when needing to have a wee 🤣🤣🤣🤣)

It was walking through a forest in Germany many year ago that made me realise I found it a bit oppressive! I love trees but not when I can’t see a way out! And I know what you mean about their usefulness when out walking!

Yes, I certainly know woods that look old, dark and brooding. I was born in Darmstadt, surrounded by 3 different wood-rich regions. One is light, deciduous woods and woodlands, one is mixed, but the one to the south is made up of dark, brooding fairy-tale dense woods. The Nibelungen stories come from there, full of magic, heroes, and Germanic mystical stories.

They certainly also seemed oppressive. 🌲🌲🌲🐺🐗🌲🌲🌲

Way back in the early 1990s on a postgrad course at university I was talking to a fellow student who was from Germany.

I asked him about his impressions of Britain. His complaint was that we didn't have any proper forests here.

Yeah. If I remember my history correctly, that’s the result of having the armada. Before, the UK was as wooded.

There are some lovely forests bits, though. And we have route stretches along disused railways, often wooded, which Germany doesn’t have as much. The (only) upside to Beeching cuts?

That looks like such a lovely place to run, how far does that track go?

Out and back it’s 4.7km, so it is my usual 5k route. I had to find extensions or other routes for longer distances, as the section after that one is not passable most of the year due to mud, cows, wild bushes, nettles, etc. so this part is the only ‘kept’ part.

Good you will have company on your runs now, At least you won’t have to fight the zombies on your own . I too like your fairy house , thumb’s up to you guys.👏👏👍
