Week 3 Run 1 in the Mud, Rain and Snow

The physio gave me a new set of strengthening exercises yesterday, that shouldn't hurt my back. More importantly he gave me the OK to continue with C25K. In fact he said it was a brilliant way of getting back into running again. 😁

It's been raining all morning, still raining come my lunchbreak and a chilly 2 degrees. I put my kit on - to show commitment- and do my dynamic warm-up stretches anyway. Maybe it will ease up a bit?....

As I leave the house it's raining even heavier than before and as I enter the woods it starts to snow. Great big wet flakes. I must be a bit crazy, going out for a run in this weather! Unsurprisingly there is hardly anyone else about today - just a couple of hardy dog walkers, and no other runners.

I absolutely loved this run. I felt like Peppa Pig, splashing through the muddy puddles, a big grin on my face.

The first 90 second run was OK, but the following 3 minute run was harder than I expected and I was ready to walk again by the end. The next 90 second run was much better but the second three minute run felt a bit heavy and laboured though I could have continued on.

It's weird how second time round this is easier, yet harder than the first time.

Well done you for getting out in the cold. It was a bit of a shock after recent days wasn't it?

What a superbly muddy run Diane class 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks Ian

I hate mud actually... I once slid halfway down a steep muddy hill in Tobago - flat on my back, arms and legs splayed after losing my footing whilst trying to get a better view of a bird

I was made to sit on plastic bags on the minibus afterwards

in reply to Birdlady64

Ahhhhhh whoops, I can see the mud dislike 😬

It was quite traumatic. And I missed the bird!

Wow! Superb commitment, but your joy with this run just leaps off the page and THAT is what it’s all about!

What a great, soggy, cold, muddy run! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Thanks Julia 😊 I'll have to run in the cold and wet if I'm doing the plan at this time of year, so I may as well try and have some fun doing it.

Very well done getting out in the rain and snow !Sounds like you had great fun also πŸ˜πŸ‘

Thanks Ian.I know you don't much like getting wet - but bizarrely I get a bigger buzz if I run in adverse conditions. Must be developing masochistic tendenciesπŸ˜‚

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

Haha, your right ! For me, getting wet should be left for in the shower 🀣🀣🀣

But if you like it that's great ! πŸ˜πŸ‘

I'm still not fit to run !

I'm on antibiotics for Chronic sinusitis.

😐😐😐

Go you! 😁

I'm glad you had a fun, albeit wet and snowy, cold run. Three minutes runs seem unreachable to me at the moment πŸ˜‚

Dont think too far ahead. Take each run as it comes. Each run prepares you forthe next one in the plan. Take it slowly and steady and you will be amazed at what you are capable of. I know I was

I'm looking forward to slowly building that stamina. It'll be great to look back in a few weeks. I bet it's a proud moment when you reach various milestones throughout, let alone when you complete the very last run!

I can only tolerate a certain amount of mud and that's on the brink for me lol πŸ˜„ my latest pastime is puddle dodging. I know what you mean tho about it being easier, but also harder the second time round. I found I was more confident in some ways, knowing I'd completed it before, but the first few weeks especially felt much tougher than before. I couldn't put my finger on why πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Yes its strange isn't it.The worst of the mud is always on the footpath leading into the woods, sometimes its barely passable even in wellies.

My trail shoes have some serious lugs on them so I'm generally OK in the woods, once I get there

Thanks Roxdog. Maybe I should've waited until today - it was cold but lovely and sunny here. Part of me really enjoyed the wet, mud, and snow though....

I loved that run along with you, no snowflakes for us so I smiled at yours and imagined them floating down and dancing on the breeze of you running by

Oh that's very poetic and beautiful 😍 Not sure my run was quite like that though...

SueAppleRunGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

No it was probably cold and wet and definitely very muddy but the snowflakes melted my heart because so love snow and we rarely see it
