I did it! Although, I’m still sub 5k - seem to only do 4K in the 30 mins. Any tips on picking up the pace?

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate in reply to ParamedicAdam

My top tip is not to worry about the pace for the moment. Consolidate doing the 30 minute runs for a few weeks, then start increasing your run durations using something like The Magic Plan on the Bridge to 10K forum. Pace will pick up naturally as a side effect of you running "long". It may take several months to happen, but it is the safest way of doing it.

Congratulations, superstar! There's your badge xxx

I agree with what nowster said, and we have a little post-consolidation plan to help you increase your distance gently over time healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I posted previously to say that as a lapsed C25K graduate ( all be it on a treadmill) I was encouraged to start again while slow shuffling with my wife, who always resisted the pleas to join me. This morning we completed the program ! Strangely she said it was the hardest one yet but then requested to keep going an extra 30 seconds. She is already looking forward to more running progress but in the immediate future would like to get up to the actual distance of 5k. Onwards and upwards πŸ˜€

I did my final run yesterday; 30Mins, 4.5k. I am amazed at how RELATIVELY easy it felt. I still have the usual twinging ankles despite lots of ankle strength work but I do actually now believe I can run and I find a real sense of achievement in it (even though the pleasure is still slightly out of reach!).

This method has amazed me. Everyone says it but, if I can do it, anyone can. The forum here has also been so important to keep motivated and on track. It is brilliant.

I am delighted and would recommend this to anyone learning to run.

So today I finally achieved Week 9 Run 3 and would love my badge please. Its been a long and winding road through PF/tendonitis. What have I learnt? To listen to my body and not to overdo it. From my wife and now running partner I’ve learnt to run more slowly and from me she has been encouraged to get out and join me. So all in all a win win and very pleased to say its now become part of our regular exercise regimen.
