I have COPD OSTEOARTHRITIS and Low thyroid..

I started my first run today and wow it was hard. I didn’t take my inhaler not water for a drink🙄 but I complete the first run 🥳🎉. Ince I got home I felt so sick and had to stop myself from vomiting -! Is this normal ?

Ps next run I will be more prepared and bring a drink and my inhaler 😆

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

You don't need to carry water for a C25K workout but you do need to adequately hydrated beforehand. See the guide.

As for vomiting.............could you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you for your reply , There was no way I was able to speak to anyone 🥵 and I felt I was going as slow as I could? I have COPD and haven’t done any form of real exercise for the past couple of years due to ill health .. maybe I just need to take a breath and concentrate on my speed … it felt like I was running like an astronaut on the moon 😂

As stated in the guide, it is advisable to be able to walk briskly for 30 minutes on a regular basis before you attempt to start C25K and there is a link to the Active 10 walking programme, which may be an appropriate place to start.

It is possible to run on the spot, so it is nothing to do with covering ground............you can always go slower.

If you cannot speak full sentences as you run, then you cannot sustain the pace, because your body is not getting an adequate supply of oxygen and as a result you will tire quickly, ache more and be more liable to injury.

Keep us posted... ......... you can do this.

What a great decision to start c25k, yes you definitely need to take your inhaler. how long before you ran did you eat? I can’t run on a full stomach. As to run slow, we can run so slow we can run on the spot, if you go to fast it’s horrid and you feel lousy, now this sounds a bit daft but watch Japanese slow running video on youtube and I practised indoors at home to get the form right, when I did it outside I found such a slow pace but it meant I could keep going and as the running parts got longer i slowed down even more, COPD is a awful but over time you will learn to run without compromising your breathing so much and your lungs will love you for it. So take it slow, read the links IannodaTruffe sent you, drink plenty of water every day, take your well earned rest day and run day 2 😃And remember, the first run is the hardest and you’ve done that one ☝️

Thank you, I will definitely read as much information as I can. I really want to do this for myself, it’s something I’ve been thinking about for so long but never plucked the courage up to start. Thank you for the you tube tips, it’s much appreciated.

And I do squats, I do 10, and the first ten hurt, but over time 10 became easy so i do ten while i bush my teeth, ten while the kettle boils fir tea, ten almost anytime I am just standing through the day and so have built some nice strong thighs which carry my round more distance now
