Evening all, hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, wk 5 R 1 completed today and I thought I’d use map my run alongside c25k to check route, distance and time, now I know I’ve slowed down after reading advice from you lovely lot but my running speed is almost the same as my brisk walking speed!! Is that okay? shall I speed up a teeny bit?

Say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one out breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.

Run as fast as you can but still be able to do the above.

Thank you, will try that on my next run 😊

An easy conversational pace equates to approximately 75% of your maximum heart rate, which is the perfect zone to build the solid aerobic base required to run faster and further, which is why it is the pace at which elite athletes spend up to 80% of their training time.

Thank you, that’s interesting ☺️

I'm this pace too, dont worry though. Longer runs at said pace you be able to go further. I tried it out this test yest with my hubby. He walked normal speed and hes taller than me so strides quite far, I was a little faster jogging. We done this for only 2 mins and I looked back and was quite shocked how far I travelled compared to him in this very short time. I wasnt outa breath either I could have went on so that was a win in my eyes for snail pace. Ok its not Olympic standards but definitely more than I was able to at the start. Go for the snail pace, less injuries too I find.

Great thanks, I need my own personal pace setter 😆

I would say, if looking at your running speed makes you anxious- don’t look! Just trundle along and enjoy the experience. It’s your run, not anybody else’s 🐢👍

Good advice, I’m getting ahead of myself I think ☺️

I am the same, if not slightly slower... and I still can't talk while running! I graduated last December and on my consolidation runs I got slower. Since then I haven't been running, but hope to start C25K again later in the year as I am too busy at the moment with other things. When I do I expect to be just as slow. Don't worry about the speed just concentrate on being able to keep it going for the time required.

"Is that okay? "

Yes, it's perfect.

"shall I speed up a teeny bit? "

NO. Keep it exactly like it is.

Remember that C25K, despite the name, is a time-based program. You are asked to jog/run for specific amount of minutes not kilometers or miles.

The end-point in Week 9 is 3 runs lasting 30 minutes - nothing more or less, regardless of distance. Once you've achieved that, then you can start to think about distance and how to get to 5k, should you want.

Eyes on the prize!

Crack on :-)

Very true, thank you, I’m going to crack on cracking on with my wk 5 run 2 tomorrow and try not to look at my distance and/or speed and just enjoy my run/shuffle 😀

Hi Chillipeppers. I think most of us think we should go faster, I was the same. I recently purchased a treadmill and my first time on it, I walked at 5km/h and jogged at the same 5km/h 🤭 I've slowly increased it and now shift between walking at 5.5km/h and 6km/h and jogging between 6km/ and 6.5km/h. Still very slow compared to some but, I can now jog once a week for 50 minutes (at 6.2km/h) I'm happy with this, 5 months ago I couldn't run for a bus! As others have said, it's your journey, enjoy it!
