My first ever 5k 🙈

So this morning… wk8r3… did it, amazingly proud of myself…

Just after lunchtime I wanted to do it again…

I downloaded a Nike run 5k session and just went with it… completed my first ever 5k 🤷🏽‍♀️😜 went slow and steady, 46mins later I could have kept going?!

With both runs today I’ve actually done 8.41km/1hr14mins of running.. I don’t even know who I am anymore 😂

Congratulations on your first 5k..........but I am afraid that I have to point out to others who may attempt to emulate your feat, that going from three 28 minute runs in W8 to a run of over 46 minutes is not recommended and exceeds the 10% rule used by most experienced runners to increase their weekly training load.

We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months.

Stick to the plan and keep running.........go off piste and who knows what will happen.

I think you did what many have done in the past without knowing/understanding the implications..... This is what this community is all about learning and supporting each other.. Rest that body and keep us updated... Enjoy the rest of the plan.

You don't look silly. Learning about running is an ongoing experience for all of us, however long we have been running.

I think Mrsrun has clearly pointed out the value of your post remaining here so that others can see how easy it is to overstep the mark.

Many of us have done far more ridiculous things through ignorance........... I ran the whole of C25K as fast as I could, not believing nor understanding the importance of running slowly to our development.

Also, don't feel silly. I did EXACTLY the same thing during week 8. I also felt EXACTLY the same euphoria and posted EXACTLY the same thing as you.

I also had EXACTLY the same response from the boss man 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was like a scolded little doggy having pooped on the new carpet 🤣🤣🤣

It is good advice though. If we do too much even though we feel we can we increase our risk of injury and back to the couch it is.

I can remove it if you really want but you could help others too by leaving it.

Well done, regardless, on your massive run day, I would certainly advise you to have 2, if not 3, rest days now just to let your body recover before the next one 😉

Well done on completing the 5k but

Also remember a rest day between runs .It appears you did both runs on the same day ?, we would recommend at least 1 non running day between runs

Might be worth a couple of days rest before the next run 👍

It’s not silly it the running bug. I’m sure everyone is used to my mantra now, stick with the program and follow the advice, to make sure you can continue running and avoid injury

Congratulations. Off piste, but we get it. The above comments are very valid, and now would be a great time to rein it in a little. You came here to run 5k and/or 30 minutes non-stop… both of those goals are well and truly smashed.

You have nothing to prove now… time to become more than a new graduate, it’s time to become an awesome runner. Read about everything around the runs, rest, recovery, hydration, different types of runs, how to safely plan ahead etc.

We see many people go off plan, and even though some comments may seem hard, we are delighted when one hits their goals uninjured, most don’t. Celebrate well, and please do some consolidation work before moving up in distance… get that injury risk nice and low again. Olympics are about 34 months away… there’s no rush!

I know how you feel when you say you wanted to do it again. When you go from a non runner to doing a 28 minute run the feeling of elation takes over. Make sure you rest for at least 24 hours between runs and do not push too hard for the next milestone it will come.

Hey Leledange! 👋 Don't feel deflated! That is an amazing achievement, you have gone above and beyond, but the thing is, you don't need to go above and beyond! I love the NRC guided runs as well and I also like that on many of the runs Coach Bennett advises you to finish with plenty in the tank, and to feel like you could have carried on further. Finishing with any/some/plenty in the tank makes me eager to go out for the next run (after at least a day's rest of course 🙂). But the times I have gone out and near exhausted myself are the times I subsequently find it really hard to motivate myself for the next run. So take it easy, trust the programme and continue this great journey!
