So I was getting on well with my consolidation runs when I started getting pain behind my left knee. My hamstring muscles had been feeling a bit tight but I just concentrated on extra stretching. However, the pain has got worse and I've had to stop running
Any walking, stretching, bending of that leg results in soreness afterwards and it hurts whether I'm standing or sitting or sometimes even lying down. I think I may have strained the muscles and tendons. The main area of pain is on the outer side behind my knee.
I'm really sad I've had to stop running. Any advice anyone can give me would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance

Oh no! Hope you recover quickly so sending you patience. Do get it checked out but once recovered, there are some knee strengthening exercises you can do, as well as exercises for sensitive knees. All on our sister forum Strength and Flex healthunlocked.com/strength...
I have had a few knee niggles here and there myself, but I think attending to knee strengthening has kept it in check.
As you move from consolidation to extending distance or speed, you might want to think about cross training anyway, so hopping over to our Strength and Flex forum might be a good thing to do and is fun! healthunlocked.com/strength...
Thanks for that, Tasha99 , I'll definitely have a look. I have to be careful though as a few years ago, I ruptured my left Achilles tendon so don't want to damage that again. My Brooks shoes are quite cushioned though.
Oh no 😔 I'm sorry to hear about the injury. I'd been wondering how you were getting on. I don't have any advice as I'm new to these things just wishing you well and hope you can recover quickly from whatever the issue is. Take care.
Thanks, tmbtrain . I was getting on well until this happened. Frustrating because I've been very careful too. Never mind, this will pass eventually (I hope!!!) 😁
Oh no !! Best get professional help but I have found the strengthening exercises so goo so perhaps they will be good but once you are better. Best of luck
I'm afraid a physio is your best bet at this point. Expect to pay about £50 for an initial session if you're going private. Expect to wait up to 12 weeks if going NHS.
Sadly, nowster , I can't afford a physio privately at the moment and the last time I had physio on the NHS (which was for a rotator cuff injury) it didn't really help a huge amount, despite me doing all the exercises given. I may have to resort to finding some appropriate exercises myself 😬
Hi there! Sorry to hear about your injury. That’s a blow, but hopefully just a temporary setback. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping you’ll be able to get back out there soon. Best wishes 💐💐 and positive thoughts heading to you 😁.
Oh no! So sorry to hear you're already on the IC! Sometimes stretching (an injury) is the worst thing to do! So also consider rollers (not the ones you put in your hair) and strength exercises. If you have Achilles problems, try calf raises to strengthen those calfs. And if you have a bike, do some cycling to keep your fitness. A 30 minutes bike ride when you would now normally go for a run also helps you keep the habit of going out exercising.
Thanks for the advice, Katnap ! Yes, it sucks to be on the IC but time is a good healer and trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. I do have a bike so that's an option, however, at the moment, any use of my leg causes pain later on, even just walking up and downstairs, or driving. I haven't lost the motivation to do it, I just don't want to cause further injury 😬
