Week 9, run 1

Well I've actually run for 30 whole minutes, I'm so blimmin impressed with myself, I never thought I would see the day I could run for 30 mins, I only go on my treadmill as I'm afraid of damaging my knees outside. In 40 minutes I went 3.4 miles

If you wear good running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop and avoid concrete, then you could enjoy the many pleasures of running outdoors.

Quick question - I mainly run on pavements and some gravel path - occasionally have to go onto grass to avoid others but, feel it’s uneven, foot placement doesn’t seem as secure and my ankles don’t seem to like it - what surface is best to avoid injury please? (I have had gait analysis and bought recommended shoes )

Those uneven surfaces will actually strengthen up your ankles much quicker than running on smooth even surfaces, but of course an uneven surface can make you more prone to turning an ankle.

Thank you for the reply. I’ve done 11 consolidation runs at 30 mins and still struggle and not sure I’m lifting my feet very much off the ground so would worry about tripping myself up! - maybe when my style gets more ‘natural’ and not so ploddy, I will give grass a go. Good to know that it is a good option to aim for though - thank you

wow, brilliant, well done!

Well done you! It’s an amazing feeling! X I can’t wait to get to that point again x enjoy the glow of achievement today! P.s don’t worry that you “only” run on a treadmill, you’re running for 30 mins non stop! Wow

Well done👏👏🏃‍♀️👍

Fantastic! You are so dedicated to do it on a treadmill! My left knee is arthritic and I was terrified I'd damage it when I started the programme but I've been very careful, running outside on very soft long grass. I have less pain now than when I started. I've just completed week 9 run 1 today too, let's hope we can have a virtual graduation in a few days time :)
