I've just started my fitness journey an i have decided i want to record my progress in each week , I do alot of walking but don't know how to track the places I've been , im rubbish with technology but know there has to be an app of some kind ,ideally I'd like an app that suggests routes aswell as tracks the routes I find ,

Thanks

Hi I usually use strava as you can track all types of activity such as running and walking. I’ve started using the Nike apps now. Nike training club and Nike run club are both excellent and completely free. However a simpler option (if you have an iPhone) is to just look at your phones built in Health app. It automatically tracks your activity for you to review.

I use MapmyRun and never had any problems with it. You can set it to walking, running and cycling and a few more.

If you are doing Couch to 5K I would strongly recommend not using any kind of distance/pace tracking for your sessions until you have graduated. It seems to be a recipe for demoralisation or injury too frequently to be worth the risk.

(I have the OS app on my phone (paid for app to get the scale I need) but don't use it for distance/pace, only navigation but use walk4life on the laptop to investigate routes. Mapometer for my swimming (I do virtual river swims), Runkeeper on my phone for runs, Fitbit for steps and auto-detection of activity)

It has some very amusing 'coaching' voice options.

Hi Crazyrocheter , I also recommend not tracking pace or distance until you've finished C25K.

I started using the free version of Strava when I graduated C25K at the end of June 2020 and, while I do enjoy it, I find it hard not to be sucked into comparing myself negatively to others. That's my problem, not yours, of course!

Just remember that progress isn't only about numbers, tracking and setting records - for me, simply taking more time for myself and feeling happier about my body than I have in years also represents progress. I still have a long way to go though .

Happy running!
