If you could only give ONE tip to someone starting C25K, what would it be?

The motto slogan of C25K is "slow and steady", so in one word SLOW, take all the runs slowly, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, when doing C25K never run on consecutive days, prepare yourself for the training program by walking briskly.

My tip would be that the runner's body develops mitochondria and greater capillary density at an easy conversational pace, whereas running hard actually destroys muscle mitochondria.

Keep it slow.

Trust in the Programme, but more importantly, trust in yourself.

Be the tortoise not the hare!

Running for 9 weeks only won’t make you fit for life so think in terms of months and years. Took me 6 months to compete C25k and a further 2 of consolidation. Didn’t matter as I’m now in the habit of running.

Don’t look ahead on the plan and see what’s coming up - that terrified me at times and felt so unachievable!

Just trust in the programme and take each run as it comes. I promise you each run prepares you for the next one and it most certainly is achievable if you have the right mindset!

don’t say you CAN’T do this - Couch to 5K is as much a mental challenge as physical - you need to focus on a positive attitude to do this and ENJOY the challenge !!! If you can’t complete a run (do your very best to) just repeat - it’s all training 🥰

You are going to find more than one tip useful 😜

Absolutely! I'm not looking for just one tip overall, rather which tip each person thinks is the most important one to them :)

Check in and listen to your body, does anywhere ache? are there any new pains? is this damaging anything?

If you follow all the other tips and check in and listen to your body you will know when to keep going and when to stop and rest to run another day

Run as slowly as you can. There's no such thing as too slow.

Go slow and KNOW you CAN do it! The benefits both physically and mentally are fabulous. Good luck!

Follow the plan but if you want to repeat a run/week before moving on, do what works best for you. Don’t give any worry (I don’t know if that’s your personality but it is mine) to what anybody you pass might think - they really don’t care and most I’ve passed, if we interact at all, are positive and encouraging. Good luck, enjoy 😊 - go SLOW

Hiya - I'm on week 9 and actually completely amazed that I have managed to get this far having never ran but the programme is excellent and when you think you can't do it its your mind saying that, not your body. My advice is to make sure you have some great motivational music to listen to as you run, loads of great stuff on Spotify. I'd also echo the warm up, warm down and stretching out afterwards. Finally, look around you and soak it all in. Best of luck!

For me I would have to say that so much about running in those first few weeks is a positive mental attitude. Whenever I feel like stopping a run, or not going running at all, I remember my motivation for starting this - to live longer for the sake of my children.
