So, hubby bought me a treadmill for my birthday and I completed weeks 1-6 solely on the that. I had read in so many places that the treadmill was easier than outside running, and so was really nervous to head in to the outside.
I was wrong!! The treadmill seems to have made me into a better outdoor runner.
I’m on week 7, run 2 (25 minute run) and today, I just kept on going...
I ran for 42 minutes and a total of 6.4km. I couldn’t be prouder of myself right now- and that’s not something I ever find myself saying!
Considering that just 7 weeks ago I was gasping for breath and begging the one minute to be up so I could walk again, I am in awe of this app, and all the support within this community.
I’m still going to play the C25k app in the back ground of my runs, just to hear some reassurance and to tick off all the weeks, but yayyyy!
My main message is... you can do this! Treadmill or outside, you can do it!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.
Please be careful of doing more than is asked of you in the plan. We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.
Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months.
Interesting, thank you. I play netball at quite a high level, so I don’t think it was completely out of my realms, but I’ve never been a runner, so that may be the best advice, thank you.
I just felt completely ok, so took a bit of a longer way home.
Definitely use those rest days to rest!! But there's plenty of non running stuff on offer, check out the strength and flex program it's going to improve you as a runner👍
Yes, I’ve been running every other day and using my rest spell. I could definitely benefit from the strength and flex program, where do I find that please? Thank you.
Awwhh 🥰 thank you @Imc50, and yes, please feel invited to our Strength and Flexibility sister forum. (you can also just search for „Strength and Flexibility“ on Health Unlocked)
C25K is designed to gently and progressively condition your body to the impact of running, which is one of the primary causes of injury amongst those who have not run before.
Doing too much too soon is a common theme on this forum. One form of fitness does not necessarily transfer from one area to another.
Injury is not inevitable but the increase in risk is, if you do more than you are conditioned to.
Thanks for that xyellowhat - and well done on your achievement.I have completed W5 on the treadmill and I’m about to do R2 of W6 tomorrow. I was beginning to be a bit concerned that I am being a bit “mollycoddled” as the general consensus is that treadmill is a lot easier than outside. Your post has pleased and reassured me as i am certainly not going out side to run in the Uk temperatures at the moment!! I think I will complete the program on the mill and then in the spring I will perhaps start outside - maybe go back to W6 just to test it out !!
Thank you, well done to you too! I have just gone back to the treadmill for week 7, run 3 and oh my it was a hard slog! I don’t know if I’m going slower outside and that’s why I find it easier, no idea. My plan now is to alternate between treadmill and outdoor runs to hopefully reap the benefits of both. Best of luck to you for future runs :))
