Just starting C25K some words of encouragement

Hi everyone, just checking in, having not written on here for a couple of months. Just got back from a 7km in 46 mins, that was up hill and down dale, and ran my first 10km in 1:09:34 last week. So from being told that I was a 56y old, 16st4lb, pre-diabetic in June 2020 who had smoked for42 years I am now a 13st9lb runner that has had to buy a new, smaller wardrobe.

It has not been easy, especially as I have arthritis but I have found that the major battle is with my head not my body. I have learnt to set smaller goals that lead to the next one. Run to the next lamp post or bend, and then the next one, this becomes the next km and then the one after. Now my head decides when to stop running not my lazy legs :-)

My thanks to Health Unlocked and to all those that have encouraged me.

Bogshuffler, out.

Dangerous, isn’t it?

I run so I can cheese*

*I added the verb ‘to cheese’ to my life a while ago and I’ve never looked back.

Thanks, I think I needed to hear that. Week 7 here and having a couple of hard runs this week. I need to lose a stone or 3 so thanks for the encouragement. 👍

Week 7 was hard, but probably where I learnt the most. Run slow, be positive/ stubborn and then find you can kick out for the last 120 or 60 seconds.

This is a great place for encouragement and well done on losing weight I run but couldn’t lose the extra pounds

I did look at what I eat as well and went with eat healthy during the week and whatever I fancied at weekends. Just swapping sarnies for salad at lunch had an impact for sure.

The power of kind, encouraging words from strangers, eh? I would have been entirely lost without this forum. Don’t imagine for a minute I would have continued past about week 4 without my online buddies! 🥰

So pleased to hear you’re still going strong. It’s proving harder to get out the door at this time of year isn’t it? We deserve a medal for that alone!

I’ve had a wobble or two with lack of direction/busyness/overthinking. Feeling good about aiming for my 10K now though. Were your pains arthritis or run related? (Do they intertwine?) I hope stretching is helping you.

Overall feeling incredibly grateful for our “superpower” and I can’t wait for spring to roll around so I can really enjoy running confidently during sunny days. Heaven.

I have my eye on a few 10K park runs next autumn.. if I sign up, that should hopefully keep me committed through the year..!
