W6r1 Epic fail.

Hi everyone. My very first post regarding my C2 5K journey. My wife is a very experienced runner, but I want to do this alone.

I've just failed W6R1. I only just managed the first 5 minutes. Then managed maybe 2 minutes of the 8 minute run.

Absolutely gutted.

I plan to try again tomorrow and if successful, I'll do the same run on Friday, then start W6 fresh on Monday morning next week.

No Captain-Slow-54 , you didn't fail, you had a practice run! W6R1 is notorious for catching people out, so you're in good company :)

You shouldn't be running every day, so take a day off, then give W6R1 another go, taking it slowly. And when it works, continue with the programme, taking at least one rest day between run days.

You really don't *have* to repeat Week 6, unless you want to of course!

You'll be fine - happy running!

Thank you. I need to get back on track. Monday Wednesday and Friday with weekend off. I was late running this week as it was. I'll see how I feel in the morning.

Hey, we don't have failed runs here ,

Just practice runs 😁

Week 6 runs 1 and 2 often catch people out as you are returning to intervals !

Just take it really slow and then slow down even more !

Not a good idea to do tomorrow though !

You do need your non running day , even more so if you didn't complete the times today .

Take a days rest first then go and smash it 😁👍

Like the others have said, take your rest day or even 2. Good luck!

We never use the "F" word on here. You still laced up and went out there - that's a success!

You just weren't feeling it for whatever reason today - and there can be many reasons why. Maybe you were tired, maybe you were a bit dehydrated, maybe your head just wasn't in the right place. This running business is a mental as well as physical challenge.

The first 2 runs of week 6 are infamous for catching people out with the return to interval runs. I found them really tough.

Don't try running again tomorrow- you need your rest day in between runs. Even more so if you found it hard.

So take your rest day and, as others have said, take it slowly, then more slowly still and you will be fine.

Thanks, I'm not sure I can go any slower though. I maybe rerun this run on Friday and start the W6 runs afresh on Monday.

You can always go slower. Have you seen this before?youtu.be/9L2b2khySLE

It happens to most people and very often on W6R1 it catches many out.

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

Have a rest day and have another go.

Very true. New to not just running, but hydration, beyond ale and cider 😁, that is, and suitable nutrition.

Thank you.

OK thank you. You've all persuaded me, I'll take tomorrow off. Retry on Friday and all going well, restart W6 on Monday.

What a friendly lot. Thank you all 👍

Sometimes two or even three days off can do wonders. Your running muscles will be properly recovered and any niggles will become easier.

You could do some low impact strengthening and flexibility exercises on your "rest days."

And go slow, especially the first run of each Week but especially Week 6.

It's not a race.

Have fun.
