NRC Running on Empty with Headspace

So I had decided after my run on Friday that I would run again today .

But wasen't feeling it when I got up this morning , I think the gremlins had got in through the cat flap in the night !

Had breakfast around 8:30 with the intention of running around 11:00 .

It was 10am and still not really feeling it but decided to put my kit on as a nudge in the right direction .

It worked , I had another glass of water , did my warm ups and was out of the door around 11:00

It was on my warm up walk when I was thinking what to do !

I looked through the NRC runs and decided appropriately on the 'Running on empty' run

So off we went !

I set off a bit faster on this run ,

Not much , but the previous one was intentionally a slow start .

I just wanted to start this one naturally.

It was tough at first, I really wasen't feeling it at all so perhaps this was the motivational run that I needed !

I like Andy P, and between him and the coach, they kept me going !

I was about 1/2 way through before I really started to settle in to it .

This is just a 32 min run which wouldn't get me to 5K (well certainly not today !)

My 5k PB is 32 something ?

So decided to run on at the end and complete the 5k.

So, I'm pleased i ran today, even though I tried to talk myself out of it !

But I'm not feeling like a longer run at the moment , don't know why πŸ€”

Ahh well, I'll do them when im ready 😁

Keep running and smiling πŸ‘

Those gremlins seem to be doing the rounds at the moment! But you booted them into touch - well done!

That's a nice pace as well for "running on empty"

I was the same on the Saturday. I spent the morning faffing around, but showed intent by putting my kit on during a heavy rain shower. Having done that I decided I might as well warm up - and that got me out of the door. It worked as I ended up beating my previous 5k PB by over 2 minutes! 😁

I'm not fancying anything long either at the moment - it must be catching!

Yes, once the kit is on its like switching on auto pilot 😁

I don't know what it is at the moment but I'm done at 5k 😐

I feel a bit like that too.

I think it's fine though if you don't feel like going further, or don't feel able to go further.

5k is a lot better than 0k. You're still running and hopefully enjoying it. That's the most important thing.

Well done for running, despite being on 'empty'. I don't think it matters at all if you're sticking to 5k at the moment. That is sensible if you're not feeling like going further.

I'm going to follow your approach and whilst I always feel like doing long runs at the moment, I am concerned that I'm not then having the motivation to do shorter runs as the longer ones take it out of me a bit and I might be overdoing it. I am going to stick to a few shorter runs for the next 10 days or so and find satisfaction from them. I'm glad to read your post as it has helped me re-think my current aporoach.

Mixing things up seems to be the way to keep the interest going... at least that's how I'm approaching it.

Thank you !

Glad to be of service πŸ˜‚

Haha, seriously, maybe your right !

I just don't feel I have the energy at the moment

I know what you mean about a longer run.I didn’t manage a 10k in October, although I’d originally planned at least 2.. 7k was my longest that month. And this month ... all my runs have been 5ks ( except one3k) and I cannot seem to make myself go any further at present. Neither can I run continuously any more.

I’m just going with the flow and I figure any run is better than no run at all.

Strange isn't it !

The day before in thinking maybe a 7 or 8 or 10k

Then on the day , 5 is enough !

But ! Like you say, at least it's a run πŸ‘

Blimey, what's happening to everyone, must be something in the air! πŸ˜‚

Well, i think 5k, seems pretty good going, as i'm only starting w2 of consolidation, only done 5k once, which took about 40 mins! πŸ₯΅

Anyway, hope your next one feels better. πŸ˜€

Well done on your run and being able to get past those nagging gremlins - I'm sure they get louder as the weather gets worse! πŸ‘ΊπŸ‘Š

I've still not made it to 5K yet - so I'm still impressed with anyone who runs that far - let alone further πŸ˜‚πŸ’ͺ

Thanks !

I'm sure you will do your 5k when you are ready !

Remember, there YOUR runs, nobody else's πŸ‘

Loved the write-up, well done on your run! Rookie question, what does 'NRC' mean?

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Helm108

NRC = Nike run Club .

It's a free app , full of lots of different runs , some time based and some distance based .

Some guided as well like the C25k app

Well done for getting out there today when you weren’t really feeling it, the good thing about NRC is it has a run for most occasions and that one sounded just right. I haven’t tried it yet but it sounds a good one and it helped you reach a well earned 5kπŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Thanks, I'm getting into the NRC app now ,

I downloaded it ages ago but just recently started to use it 😁

I see it like a running menu πŸ€” what do I fancy today....Coach Bennett’s enthusiasm is typically American but he’s amiable enough and I find him encouraging.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Couchphoenix

Haha, yes your right !

There is a run for all occasions 😁

I agree. I'm starting to love NRC, although I'm not sure about the Thank You Run I used on Saturday. The sentiment was nice but it was way too much American cheese for my taste.

That said something must have been working in my favour to give me that 5k PB!

Hi Ian,

Glad you kicked those Gremlins into touch πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Well done for getting out there and doing your run, important to listen to your body and how you feel 5k is a great distance and achievement.

Take care

I think you need to congratulate yourself that you went out when on empty. The β€œdon’t go running” gremlins didn’t win, you did. Sure there will be a time when you want to do a longer run but 5k isn’t a short run (well not to me)

Any run is better than no run.
