The heavy rain this morning meant I could enjoy an extra hour in bed but just as I was getting excited to finish work and head out for an afternoon run, you guessed it, the heavens opened. Soooo frustrating but looking out the window, I know I'm not the only one on this forum suffering the same thing today haha!
I thought I'd take the opportunity therefore to ask if anyone has used the Nike Running Club app to create a plan. I thought I'd try it out towards the end of last week and have so far done a tempo and long run which were challenging but enjoyable. I'm just a tad wary that it might push me a little too quickly given the excellent structure of the C25k plan. I did one of the associated workouts on the sister app Nike Training Club yesterday and I think the coach was out to kill me by launching straight into an intermediate session ๐ฑ. So sadistic!!! Maybe I've set the plan up all wrong but I played on the safe side when entering the details. Thought I'd ask for tips from those who are more familiar with it than me ๐

Pnegirl the way we're designed ........ We're waterproof or at least our so skin is, don't let the weather derail those runs ๐ just dry your trainers properly it's all good ๐
Haha, no I'm completely with you on that. I got drenched on my Saturday morning run and have run in the rain quite a few times. It's actually quite refreshing because it cools you down. It became torrential though as I was just about to finish work and do my warming up and I'm so scared of slipping and injuring myself I thought I'd put it off till tomorrow...not sure it'll be much better though ๐
I did JuJu's magic plan (come over to the bridge to 10k forum for details!) though I quite often listened to one of the Nike Run Club guided runs of the appropriate length. I like the headspace ones, or the "rainy day run" which would have been appropriate for you.
I haven't heard of the rainy day runs so I'll definitely check those out, thanks Blackberrypie. I did have a nosy in the 10k forum and have joined but didn't know when I should start the plan. I've done more or less a month of consolidation but not sure when a safe time to take things up a notch. I feel ready but what my mind and body are prepared for are two very different things haha!
I did about a month of consolidation which is about what is recommended. The plan builds up pretty gently (particularly the timed version) so as with C25k it builds you up gradually.
Hi, the NRC app has all sorts of guided runs of different lengths and for different reasons. You could start off with First Run, or maybe Second Run? The ones with coach Bennett work well for me.
You could also follow JuJuโs Magic Plan as Blackberrypie suggests. Thatโs the way I got up to running 10K and I havenโt looked back since.๐
Ah thanks David_G. I have seen JuJu's Magic Plan but maybe I should take another good look at it. I could then maybe use the app to run the required times/distances. I have done the last few with very little coach interference and while sometimes I need the encouragement, it's nice to try and get 'lost' in a run too, if that makes sense. Thanks again ๐
I did try NRC app but to be honest I found the constant waffle from the guy on the app sooo annoying so I sent him to cyberspace along with the app. I just run with mapmyrun , music and am interval app ๐
Thanks Chunkypie. The two runs I did only had a quick stats summary every kilometre which wasn't too bad but constant waffle would be annoying. I'm with you on the music front, have to have that to keep me plodding on ๐
Iโve used it loads of times, I did the 5k and 6k runs on there, and built my way up to 10k and once I did 13k. You have the option to press resume workout at the end of each one, so you can continue on to what you feel comfortable with, for example you could select a 6k and press resume workout to get up to 7 or 8k. The app tells you how much extra youโve done at regular intervals too. You can still listen to your playlist, as on C25k.....hope this helps Pnegirl ๐
That's great, thanks Couchphoenix ๐! It was on your recommendation that I thought I'd give it a whirl as it sounded quite good after looking into it more.
I think the app got carried away though as on Saturday, I thought it had given me a 6k to try (I'd managed a 5.5k previously so thought I'd see how I got on, no pressure though). It turned out it had given me a 6. 5k! I managed to complete it and kept my pace steady, managing to maintain my normal pace throughout. While I was really pleased with this, I knew it completely went against the 10% rule (my own fault for not reading it properly). I think I'm going to just use the guided runs and come off the plan from now on so that I can better control when I think it's time to step up. Thanks for the extra tips! They're really helpful ๐
Youโre welcome, I didnโt fancy that 10k plan at all and as for the 10% rule, I donโt listen to that either....I just listen to my body and how I feel and how the runs going.....personal choice, Iโm not knocking either of them, each to there own and what suits them best. Youโre doing well and increasing your distance nicely. Glad I could help.
Gosh well done you ๐๐ you are so going to be a โproper runner โ ๐๐
Seriously though you are progressing so well ๐
I do sometimes wonder if my feet are actually lifting off the ground ๐ค๐
They must be though , I appear to be getting from A to B ๐
With regard to the NRC app , I like it but only use it for timed , guided runs .
At the moment Iโm trying to โbehave myselfโ and stick to my 30 minute runs .
Iโm pleased my โcomfortable โ pace is improving* so hopefully stamina is building ?
I donโt seem to getting and further distance though ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
My goals are not so much with stats at the moment but I do need to include some hills ( small inclines ๐ ) and I actually achieved my other goal today which was I went out mid morning rather than in the early morning dark or evening dark .
I passed a few people I knew and passed by lots of the โ hardy golfersโ ๐๐๐
Iโm pleased about this because today was lovely and the kind of day for a lovely run . Also I canโt see all the remaining beautiful autumn colours in the dark ๐๐๐๐๐
Hope your next runs are in fair weather and your current fab progress continues ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Hi Racinginthestreet! Thanks so so much for your lovely message! It's brilliant that you're stamina and pace are increasing too. I know you've never been focused on the stats as it's about the enjoyment of the run (something I've been trying to take a leaf out of your book for lol) but it just shows that the development is there and if you enjoy it and it hits the comfy zone, that's all the better!
How did you find the mid morning, rather than early, run? I hope it was still as nice ๐โโ๏ธ๐
