SUPER NERVOUS STARTING

Its weird for me be feeling this as I have been active all my life - super active really. I am super hesitant in starting running again that I am making excuses all the time to just start. Understand that I will never know if I don't just start but any helpful hints to assist me please. Frustrated as I am normally so strong and determined to do things. Thanks :-)

Don't be super hesitant on starting running again with C25K, have a good sleep tonight, get up in the morning and say to yourself "this is the day I am going to start running again with run 1 of week 1 of C25K" good luck.

Hi, my advice would be to take things very steadily and as slowly as you need to. It’ll take time for your body to adjust to running so don’t expect too much too soon.

You’ll get plenty of advice as you follow the program and on this forum. Everyone will be so supportive so don’t hesitate to post on here if you need support or encouragement. We’ve all been where you are and we can relate to how you’re feeling! Best of luck with it. I hope you enjoy it!

Don't be nervous. Go slow and it will be the best thing you have ever done. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum and no need to be nervous.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi, just think about the one run at a time and the success of getting through each run. It is only 30 minutes 3 times a week, not a big commitment and much less likely to get injured if sticking to the plan and observing the rest days. I had gotten back into my running about 8 years ago after a few years break, after I read the book Run Fat B*tch Run. I was soon running 5 to 6 times a week for 5km or more but it wasn’t as good as this program. I was always trying to push myself further each run, from the beginning. This program is paced more slowly and much easier to feel successful along the way.

I was also very nervous so I genuinely sympathise with you, but once you’ve got your headphones 🎧 in and a good upbeat playlist going you’ll be fine. There are so many people out there running these days that you’ll just be another in the crowd and quite honestly nobody pays any attention to you. So go for it and let us know how you got on 👍

Check out my previous posts for links to the motivational videos on You Tube I use to get me into a good positive mind set 💪🏻

Just get out there and give it a go :)

I think you got really good advice already...but just to add it helps to post here after every week you completed, its like little milestones. All the best!!

Everyone has said some really positive advice. I would just add that, if you start and can't manage what you aimed to do that day, that's ok. Focus on what you *did* do, not on what you didn't. I couldn't run for 30 seconds when I started, so took 18 weeks to do couch to 5 k! But that's my journey, everyone has their own. Be proud of yourself for getting out the door, we are all cheering you on. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🙌🙌🙌

Trust the programme, and if you've been very active my advice is... forget that and don't try to go fast. Go nice and slow, don't skip rest and repair days and drink at least 2 litres of fluid the day before you run.

Apart from that, welcome, enjoy it, and let us know how you are doing 😊

Hi there

Brilliant decision to start running again. You say you are nervous (I think we all were at the start- I know I was) but you have nothing to lose and lots to gain.

Don't think ahead just one foot in front of the other, one step at a time. You really can do this. The programme will get you there!

I was nervous too as I was 63 and I’d never run but what I did was I told everyone and put it on social media so that I’d be held accountable. As you can see I’m still here! Good luck - it’s fun / challenging and SUCH an achievement WHEN you get there. Good luck and remember to have fun. We’re hear to pick you up if you stumble.

Just one of the wonderful things about this program is, you can just start it - now, or in an hour's time - you don't have to wait for xxx to happen, you don't have to be a certain standard, you don't need a partner, just you and yourself saying yes, I'm doing this right now. A pair of trainers, phone/headphones, and go. ( I didn't even use the app at first, just had the times on my old casio stopwatch :D)

So just head out the door, give week 1 run 1 a try, then come back and tell us how you did, good bad or ugly!

Be kind to yourself, maintain a conversational pace, do the stretches in Iannodatruffe's link (having been superfit, you may expect too much of yourself at first so don't push too hard)

We are now your official support team, cheering you on. Go Rebel!!!
