A Slow 6k and post run Breakfast

Having my post run breakfast of spinach omelette and coffee - without chips Instructor57 😁. Well actually it's rainbow chard but don't tell anyone. Are pics of food allowed on here?

Well anyway, about my run..

This was the long run of week 2 of the magic plan for me, after a laboured 3k on Monday and a horrendous 5k on Saturday evening which I'm putting it down to fatigue and lack of sleep.

This mornings run was better. I made a deliberate effort to slow things right down, aiming for a pace of around 9.10 per km to give me the 6k in 55 minutes. I know I usually go too fast at the start and then struggle towards the end. Plus my route today is an uphill stretch for the last 750m. I don't do hills very well ☹️πŸ₯΅

I found it really hard to keep to that pace to start with and had to force myself to slow things right down for the second km but it felt like I settled into a nice relaxed rhythm and was actually enjoying my run for the first time in a while. 😁

But my legs started to tire after about 4.5k, again I'm putting it down to lack of sleep - just 4 hours again last night. I wasn't going to give in though - thinking back to the post Roxdog

wrote about her 10k run, am I in pain?, am I breathing okay? Like her the answer was no so I carried on. The last uphill stretch to the finish was with Queen's Under Pressure ringing in my ears. How appropriate😁

The result 6k in just shy of 55 minutes with splits of 9.01, 9.55, 9.27, 9.06, 9.09, 9.12. Not too bad!

If only I could crack the sleepπŸ˜πŸ’€

This one's for you! 😁

It reminds me of Bubba in Forest Gump: β€˜Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.’

Just replace with Spinach ^

Hmm

It kind of works with most of that but pineapple spinach? 😝

Well done and glad it was a better run today. As for sleep, I don't know where you are, but it was hot last night.

Glad one of my posts helped!

I had an awful short run of the week this morning, just not feeling it, it felt harder than the 10k! Weird...

Thank you! And your post definitely helpedπŸ™

I'm in Essex, so yes it was pretty warm. I tend to wake up hot a few times in the night anyway- partly an age thing.

It's weird isn't it how that can happen? Maybe it's just a little bit of a down after the high of your 10k. The next run will be much better I'm sure πŸ™‚

I'm not sleeping well either. Am working at home. Without my runs I'd go mad. It's wearing a bit thin now!

Yes I know exactly what you mean!

Hopefully after my week away I will be feeling less frazzled 😡

i had omelete also .

Thanks - it was a much more enjoyable run this morning, despite the uphill finish.

Yum! That's a posher omelette than mine 😁 was it in from the recipe book?

Great run always good to slow down. Probably no consolation at all but my sleep is similar and I now think my old bod copes with it better.πŸ˜πŸ‘

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Hareshaw-Granny

Yes it's been like that a while for me now, but seems to be worse atm.

I have a break next week in north Wales so am hoping things will get better and the change of scenery will do me some good I'm sure. It's been a long six months working at home and looking at the same four walls all the time

Question is - do I take my running kit or not?πŸ€”

Correct answer, of course you do. If I ever manage to get away it will be the first thing I pack! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘

I got rolling of the eyes when I suggested it to my worse half😁

Of course you do! Which bit of North Wales? Coastal or inland?

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to nowster

The LlΕ·n Peninsula

A little way inland from Abersoch

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

I know the area well. I've family living on the peninsula. I ran W3R2 on a back road near Aberdaron.

Great - I can pick your brain for running routes then😁

I've never been to that part of Wales before. I lived in South Wales for 4 years and hubby is from Cardiff so have family near Llantrisant. We were hoping to see the grandkids for the first time since Christmas on the way home but that won't happen now there's a new lockdown in Rhondda Cynon Taf

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

Because of the Greater Manchester lockdown I've not been able to visit the family there since the middle of July. ☹️

Feel free to private message if you want any advice. One tip: if you already have National Trust membership, the car parks at Aberdaron, Whistling Sands (Porthor) and Morfa Nefyn (Traeth Dinllaen) are all run by NT, so effectively "free".

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to nowster

Thanks!

Yes it's all a bit pants isn't it - and seems to be getting worse again

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

I can recommend the beaches at Morfa Nefyn, Llanbedrog (also NT car park) and Pwllheli if you want a long stretch to run on, but I'd suggest not running on the fluffy sand or the pebbles.

Yum, yum. I might try that πŸ‘πŸ˜„

It was very tasty and hit the spot nicely

My weekday late afternoon snack is often a one-egg omelette instead of biscuits (which I've now stopped buying). In warm weather, add some crisps for salt.

My weekday meals are usually back to front: something bigger in the morning, then smaller things later in the day. Weekends are more conventional.

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to nowster

So you swopped the biscuits for crisps!

Brilliant 😁

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate in reply to Birdlady64

Only when its so warm that I'm sweating buckets (and losing salt).

Well done on your 6k. Mine (also week 2 of the magic plan) was definitely more enjoyable because it was slow. It wasn’t until the next day the tiredness kicked in. On to week three now! Good luck!

Birdlady64 profile image

Thanks!

Long and slow us definitely the way to go!

I'm really hoping I won't be too tired as my plan is to run the 7k of week 3 on Friday as I am on holiday next week😁

Somehow a 4k and a 5k seem more realistic in unfamiliar territory than a 7k. No idea why really, but knowing me I'd get hopelessly lost and end up miles away from where I should be (hee hee!)🀣

Congrats on your 6k and the shiny graduate60 badge over on B2TK πŸ‘πŸ‘
