W6/R3 - Got on with it..

Didn't feel anywhere near as trepidatious leading up to this run, as I did for the 20 minute run.. why is that I wonder? I think partly because my last run disaster with my phone tech all failing meant I ran an extra 5 mins as I didn't remember the timings so I did 25 mins, albeit with 2 x 3 min breaks 😅 and iPhone was good this time, though Garmin failed to find the gps throughout...doh!

Between last and this, I had to leave 3 clear days as my ham strings, calves and IT band were very achy after the last run so gave them a good rest which seemed to do the trick. I am stretching but they are not used to this type of punishment!

I left with a positive mindset and the first 10 mins were a breeze, was loving the tunes and just felt brill! After that I was more aware of my pace, breath and wondering how far I'd get with the timing and whether there were any hills ahead of me, haha those hills!!!

Managed to finish the run and even did the last 60 minute sprint which I was so pleased with.. I had run on and on from home (to avoid the uphill return) so had the long walk back home and decided to go the scenic route across the fields.. I didn't account for how heavy my legs would feel so getting over those stiles was a challenge in itself 😂

If anyone has a garmin here.. does yours always get the gps? Mine fails alot and is quite old so think it might be time for a newer model!

Happy running all 🙋‍♀️

Well done! No more intervals from now on.

Watches usually receive some GPS assistance data when they synchronise with the phone.

Without it they can take up to 15 minutes to load the satellite position information from the satellites necessary to get a fix. Once it's there it's valid for a few days. With the ephemeris data, the fix usually takes about a minute or two when there's an open sky above.

Thanks for that, yes it was a clear blue sky day so was surprised it couldn't lock-on and I had my phone in my pocket.. maybe getting a little old now perhaps

Well done........relax and enjoy it.

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow, as recommended in the guide to the plan.

Many people do not hold their stretches for long enough or put enough effort in. Hold post run stretches for 30 seconds and make sure the pull is strong enough to be on the verge of discomfort.

Thanks for this, good reminder as I'm sure I am guilty of not holding it for long enough. I do stretch on a mat and today I rolled my legs with a foam roller straight afterwards. Will focus on this more from now on..

Something IannodaTruffe missed is that if the stretch seems to be becoming less uncomfortable after only a few seconds you might want to extend the stretch so it stays in the region of uncomfortableness.

Ah ok thank you, I’ll do that. I’ve been stretching here and there today and rolling my IT band and ham strings and will keep going as they feel achy now.

My Garmin is letting me down loads lately. The GPS is soooo temperamental but maybe because I live near Cleeve Hill. Doesn't pick up on my trail runs and if it does it's patchy. Today my tracker didn't sync with my phone app either so no log of my run 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Can’t recall what model yours is? Is it fairly new? Wondering if it’s worth getting a new one..

Incidentally mine is borrowed anyway so I should if I’m going to keep this up!

Good run there. You've passed the watershed run. Take your time and you'll graduate no problem👍 You've got this wrapped up😁

You could use an app to record your pace, distance and time? I use Map my run.

Yes good idea, does it work independently of the watch?

You have to start it and hold down to end , it's on my phone which sits on a holder on my arm. You get regular updates as you run on distance and your pace per km.

Well done Sussex! That’s great you managed a sprint!

I did the same thing last week and came home via soggy muddy country fields and stiles. I did not think it through.. my poor babies (Brooks trainers) got a soaking! 😦 Had to clean them before I stretched, tsk, tsk.

well done, great to read your runs!

I am still using the couch to 5k app and once i get towards the 5k I will start to use my apple watch, i know loads of runners that are using their apple watches as gives them flexibility with various apps too. (good if you have an iPhone!)

Aha sounds brilliant! I’m still discovering all that it can do. Am excited about the future - me running, who’d have thought!
