Wk6 R2 - Going off script...

Hey everyone

I’m new here. So today I did Week six, Run 2 (10 minutes Run, 3 minutes walk, 10 minutes) When it got to the end of the first 10 minutes, I felt like I could keep going... so I did. I ran for a total of 22 minutes before slowing to a brisk walk cool down. I struggled with the run one intervals after the 20 minute run at the end of week five. I’m now wondering if I did a bad thing, is it a fail? Will it effect run 3? Did I actually complete run 2, in theory? It’s amazing how quickly adulation can turn against you!

Matt

Welcome to the forums... Great job so far.

You ran more than the run... so no need to doubt that you completed it... it’s broken in bits under your feet!

The plan is carefully devised to minimise injury risks, so running on isn’t the best idea... but that’s done and you’re not nursing an injury. Keep those legs moving tomorrow, don’t sit for long periods of you can avoid doing so... this will aid recovery.

One of the amazing things about the human body is that it’s capable of a lot more than we think we are ready for... so the odd off plan excursion is kinda OK. What we need to do going forwards is to learn to stick to the script... this plan makes us runners... other plans then help us smash our goals... we just need to be ready for the next start line, and not nursing an injury.

Rein it in a little and you’ll become the runner you’re meant to be... there’s no rush to see how awesome you are, those around you can already tell you all about that!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Stick to the plan.........it works. Making it up as you go may not and can increase your injury risk.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Well done on getting this far. Keep to the plan and don't overdo it or you could risk an injury.

Knowing the answers you’d receive on the forum I actually gasped reading that you overran! 🙊🤣 I skipped a minute of my interval walk yesterday and felt RECKLESS 😎🤓

The programme seems to work wonders for everyone on here. You’d be gutted if you injured yourself at this stage so best to put your faith in the plan. Good luck!

I have no desire to sway from the plan again.

You did 2 minutes more running than you needed to but did 1 minute less total time than the scheme requires, and no intervals.

The next scheduled run would be 25 minutes straight. Your choice.

Here's the thing... many many people struggle with this run (and are surprised) and you have to ask why that is. Maybe it is there with a little nugget of something that needs to be learned before moving on.

The sky will not fall in though... in the book of C25k no-nos this is not as risky as running on consecutive days. And you've learned something about how seductive running can be!
