Storm Francis got the better of me....

My consolidation runs have been going really well up until now.

I usually run early morning.... but the wind and rain were fierce today, so I thought I'd change it up a bit and go for an evening run instead.

I could tell from the moment I left the house that it was going to be a toughie .... I was struggling against the wind even just on the 5 minute warm-up walk.

When I started running I was headed directly into the wind. It felt like I was getting nowhere fast, despite exerting quite a considerable amount of effort!

After about 10 minutes of being battered, it all felt just too much and I stopped running. I managed to convince myself to get going again rather than just walk back home, but I ground to a halt again around ten minutes later! I haven't done that before. Throughout the programme I remained determined not to stop, no matter how tough things felt. I was, and remain, pretty annoyed with myself for giving in to my fatigue gremlins!

Oh well, no point in beating myself up over it I guess. I think I just need to chalk this one off as a learning experience.... running in stormy weather isn't easy! Having looked at my garmin app I can see that I started off too fast - probably over compensating for the head wind. Next time, I will try to 'go with it' a little more.... or maybe just wait until the storm blows over.

Stay cosy and safe everyone x

I think running into a storm ⛈ is an achievement and not something to be annoyed about at all! 💪 Put this run down as your short interval run for the week 😉

I like your way of thinking PhoenixRise 👍🏻😊

Feeling a lot more positive about it today.... looking forward to a less eventful run tomorrow 🙂

I did a run yesterday in the winds and although I ran in a square ish route I never felt like I had the wind behind me, helping me. I didn’t feel I had a great run but I’m taking the positives that I went out and didn’t let the voices that were saying “it’s too windy to run” win - I won!! And you won!!

Thanks Health2020. I'm being less hard on myself today. As you say, just getting out there in such conditions makes us all winners!

Also, it was a valuable lesson learnt. I certainly won't be battling the wind in future... if I run in similar conditions again I will aim to take it slower than usual - not to tire out so easily.

Luckily yesterday was my rest day, you were brave to even try! Today my tricky week6R1.

Good luck today! I found w6 r1 ok.... probably because I heeded the advice to go out slow and not be too cocky! 😊 It was R2 that caught me out a little.... probably too cocky about the run before! 😊

I have no doubt you'll smash it after your last run success. Enjoy!
