W5 R3 tomorrow In the pouring rain!

Well I managed to get R2 out of the way on Sunday. I was so chuffed that I managed to get through the 8 min runs! 😁 I’m up in rainy but beautiful Scotland in a tiny place called Eskdalemuir. It’s so great to be running amongst such gorgeous scenery and waving like an excited child /mad person at all the sheep, hares and horses along the way! I desperately wanted to share a photo with you guys but for some reason every time I tried the screen just froze and I ended up losing my message as well! Very frustrating 😡 if anyone can shed some light on this?

Anyway I am looking forward yes looking forward to what feels like a massive jump up in Run 3 tomorrow ( if I keep telling myself I will believe it right?) Although, have checked the weather and it’s 100% rain all day. Needless to say I haven’t brought anything suitable for torrential rain so will probably end up wearing a plastic carrier bag on my head!! 😂 wish me luck! 😀

Well done.

It is not a massive jump, as this post points out healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Relax and enjoy it.

Thanks John. The mad thing is I have read these a few times but I think it’s the constant running with no breaks that is making me think this way! Anyway I shall do it and look forward to the immense satisfaction I get from it! Thanks for your support 😀

A 'fun' experiment for you. Imagine you have jog for 30 mins , 3 times , in Week 9. Working backwards from there, at point do you introduce walking breaks in your DIY program, assuming Week 1 is easy enough to do from the couch.

You're underestimating the amount of fitness you've gained. Always focus on the TOTAL running time (or total workout time)... It's *that* which builds your stamina and fitness, NOT the presence or not of any walking breaks.

Week 1 - 8 mins (x3, 24 mins)

Week 2 - 9 mins (27 mins)

Week 3 - 9 mins (27 mins)

Week 4 - 16 mins (48 mins)

W5.1 - 15 mins

W5.2 - 16 mins (easy by now?)

W5.3? Just take it nice and easy.

You're ready.

Do it.

Yay I’m ready! Thanks! Will definitely start looking at the total running time in future!

I've just completed this, also in the pouring rain. Rain is good for running in - for me anyway, possibly because my head is 100% waterproof with no hair to get in the way. Anyway, I won't lie: it hurt a bit towards the end but Laura got me through. Don't overthink it. Hope it goes/went well.

Thankyou 😂 unlike you I’ve got a lot of hair (sorry!) and am soaked to the bone. No amount of layers kept me dry in the driving rain but I did it!!

If you run in Eskdalemuir you need to expect lots of rain (and cold). I grew up the other side of Lockerbie but now live in east Anglia and often hear the weatherman say Eskdalemuir- usually as the wettest/coldest place in UK! It’s beautiful and I always mean to visit the Buddhist temple there. I would recommend it to you but I see it’s closed for the year due to Covid however it would still be worth driving past. It’s beautiful. You’ll smash run 3 - as you’ve sussed you need to KNOW you can do it. Have fun.

Thanks so much. Yes we know the area quite well cos my Mum lives here and lives a couple of miles from Sami Ling. Shes a fully fledged Buddhist you see! It is beautiful round here but the weather as you say is always tricky! I did run 3 this morning in the rain of course and smashed it!!😀

Oh I should have realised you’d a link to the area. Eskdalemuir is hardly a tourist area - beautiful as it is! My mum grew up near Corrie and I was in Moffat last week visiting my sister. Great work on run 3 - it’s a landmark one and the end is in sight.

Oh I’ve heard Moffat mentioned quite a few times over the last few days! It rained so much here yesterday the roads became completely flooded and my daughter couldn’t get back to Edinburgh! I think they had to drive by Moffat to get back. 😀

I got married up there and my grandad couldn’t get home from the reception. You can rely on one thing in Scotland. 🌧 ☔️

Good luck with the Scottish rain...I spent Saturday soaked through up a Munro in Glen Coe....dreich is the word!!

Moomin63 profile image

😂 I know the feeling! I got absolutely drenched this morning!! Looks like I’ll be here for the next run also. Good luck to you on your next one!

I've been repeating the longer runs to build up stamina, so once you're into week 6, 7 and 8, I've been doing 4 or 5 25 min runs....

My favourite word.

Very descriptive...I also like scunnered, glaiket and peely Wally 😷

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate in reply to Caley67

Shoogily is another favorite and although I use it all the time I’ve no idea how to spell it!!

Caley67 profile image
Caley67Graduate in reply to Sybilw

Aye, shoogly is brilliant...beeling is quite good or footering. Unsurprising we Scots have 'dreich' in our vocabulary. I'm going to do a 25 min run on Friday after my wee break home which, whilst wet, has been fantastic.

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate in reply to Caley67

Oh I’ve not used footering for ages!! I still talk about going ‘home’ and I’ve not lived in Scotland since 1994. I’m trying to get my grandchildren to use the best ones - their favourite is oxter. 🤣🤣🤣

That’s a new word I’ve just learnt!
