Wow - that was that. When I started I wasn't sure for how long I'd stick with the programme, then I found this forum and enjoyed each run (almost). I feel I learnt an awful lot about my physical and mental strength. This last week running wasn't easy because of the heat and humidity, but I made it! Nowhere near 5k - but that's ok. My plan now is to keep running 30 mins on 3 days a week for the next 3 weeks and see where I go from there. There's a bunch of routes and podcasts I' d like to try out... Which brings me to a question: if I cycle 5 mins to a nice running route, does that work the same as a warm up walk? Or should I still do that on top? Or anything else?

Warming up is 2 things - (1) getting the heart rate up in preparation for the main course, (2) warming up the muscles you're about to use.
Cycling will be fine for (1) but for (2)? .... there's a big difference between that and running. I always try and start with a brisk walk ... using the same muscles I'm about to use. Recommended by likes of Paula Radcliffe and Seb Coe.
