I went from a B cup to a D cup literally overnight a few years ago (Yes I do mean literally). I'm just getting used to running again after quite some time away from running.
Now at week 5 and I'm starting to really notice the difference. It's like carrying a rucksack on my chest; unlike my old life where the rucksack was always on my back!!!
Please can someone recommend a great value for money sports bra for a 40C/D

PS nipple chafe not a problem as I solved that problem years and years ago with gaffer tape. Not pretty but OMG so effective
Hi there, I got a pack of two (one white, one black) and underwired from m & s. Not fancy but do the job well for me. Can’t remember how much but good value. Had to go up from DD to an E to get the right fit. ♥️

I had a couple of sports bras which just didn't do the job and I was in pain. Could I suggest the shock absorber bra. It was researched at a university to maximise support etc. Whilst it costs a bit, it is completely worth it
Yep agree Shock Absorber. My Double Ds are well controlled 😂😂. Agree too that it’s a bit of a wiggle to get into but once on it’s comfy and does the job. Got mine from Amazon. My only running purchase in fact.
Shockabsorber run bra, for me, best ever, no movement, great support, racer backed, only issue is sometimes it’s a work out itself to get the thing on! 😂
You can find discounted ones, last seasons colours etc., if you shop around....
Another vote for shock absorber 👍Ultimate Run - I went up a band size and down a cup size and it does the job. I leave the top fastener done up and it’s not too tricky to get on 😊💫

I know they're on the more expensive side but Falke is amazing!! mine is non-underwire, and does up and the front (so a compression sports bra). I'm a 30FF and its the only one of mine which is truly high impact
Thanks for that suggestion but I have a broad back 40/42 and although Falke do bigger bust sizes (as you know FF) the chest sizes stops at about a 38/40. Keep on running X

Thanks for your advice. I can only say Wow!!! those shock absorber bras seem to definitely be the business. My present one will hopefully get me through week 5 and definitely a shock absorber for week 6. To infinity and beyond!!!!!!! XXX
Oh if only. I've struggled with Freya lingerie. Most bras only go up to a 40 and I find their 40 is way too tight. Definitely closer to a size below. Good luck with your journey x
Thanks for that. A running friend of mine had mentioned that brand to me way back on week one. My trusty old M&S was fine until week 4. I need a bit more scaffolding now to keep the girls in place. Maybe when I get to my 5K I'll try a few brands. Good luck with your journey x
I have lots of sports bras from light to medium but for running....Shock Absorber, absolutely no question about that at all. Pretty much essential if you are a C cup upwards I would say!
Oh that's interesting, I'll check that out. I'm having C and I just use default decathlon "flatters", nothing fancy, but they work okay (not awesomely though) for me.
Good idea as I find Decathlon is great value for money; but I've found most stuff is sized pretty small. Even XXL won't go anywhere near my amazonian top half. Carry on running x
I fit my c in theirs xl this year. I think they must have revised their sizes? I've got shorts off them recently, in size 16, and discovered it was too big 😶
I'm stuck with my big ribcage and broad shoulders, (a legacy of my old life). I tried a lot of stuff on in Decathlon in Stockport (pre lockdown) couldn't find a sports bra that felt right. I got into size 10 leggings. Unfortunately with my 36" long legs the full length ones ended up around my knees!!!!! Hey at least I got into a size 10!!!!!
Most full length trousers are capri pants on me and I think my mini dresses and skirt days are long behind me. Plus Long Tall Sally is shutting up shop. What a nightmare for us over 6foot ladies.
Shock absorber is the way to go- my daughter is a 32F and swears it is the only sports bra that works for her. They also last really well so more than worth the initial outlay.

I have a non wired shock absorber they do come up small. I fight a bit do it up or ask hubby to do it for me and then they barely move. I’m an HH. Not a good shape but I’m not in a fashion parade and like to pretend I’m invisible when I run 🏃🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤣

Sticky side to skin. At the end of a run there's never any 😭 tears as the sweat brings it off easily. I do love my figleaves bras but never had their sports bras. My shock absorber is on it's way. My M&S scaffolding did it's job today. Enjoy your running x
I'm not anticipating getting to distances where nipple chafing will be an issue. But then I wasn't anticipating becoming a runner at all so who knows. And if I ever do, I may well eat my words...
I think it was maybe a bigger problem in my old life when I didn't wear a bra!!! But old habits are hard to break. Prevention better than cure. Of course in my glory days I used to run marathons and ultra marathons. C25K is definitely my happy place and pace now. Although never say never 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
I picked up some shock absorbers at my shopping outlet last week ...so if you have an outlet near I would make a trip ! £10 each and they are the only ones that tame my bangers !!! I would pay full price for them tho as they are so worth it x
Thanks for that. I live in the lake district. Nearest shopping outlet for me is 100 miles away. Probably the cost of fuel to get there would defeat the object. I bit the bullet and ordered two from Amazon. Hopefully the 'girls' will enjoy their new scaffolding for W5R3. Happy running x
I bought a ‘high impact’ front zip sports bra from sainsburys, C cup. Best sports bra ever, don’t feel the wobble, no chafing, and best of all no struggle to get the thing over your head. £14. So it’s a bargain as far as I’m concerned.
Wow thanks for that there's a sainsburys 40 miles from me I'll click and collect a couple in my sizes and see what they are like. My shock absorber bras come tomorrow hopefully in time for W5R3!!!!!
