Update : Thanks all for your input! Certainly given me positive feedback, really appreciated 👍🏻

Hi everyone! I was just wondering what everyone’s preferences are? Early morning or evening runs? Initially I ran at around 8:30-9pm (no one would see me 🙈& cooler) However, now I run early morning starting usually before 7:30 ( slightly quieter - still no one will see me 🤣) #invisiblerunner

Yes I’m actually believing this! My only issue is come September I’ll be leaving for work at 8 so I’ll have to think about my times

I prefer the morning before it gets too hot 7.30 ish but sometimes think my body isn't awake enough. Can't stand running in the sun.

Totally me!!! I have done a few times but my it was exceptionally hard.

Ha ha!! I ran in the rain and sun here this morning! It was tough, hot, sweaty mess by the time I got home 🤣

Well invisible runner, early morning is the time I run as well, not too early, it is cooler at that time, don't worry about other people seeing you run.

Thank you 😊 I am actually getting better in regards to being seen! I even wave to my friend as she’s on her way to/from work on some days

I exchanged waves with the guy who rebuilt the flat roof on our extension this morning. He was sitting in his van and I was just starting the final 5 minute run of W4R2.

At the moment I'm out the door at about 8.30am, but I'm hoping I can get up a bit earlier this week.

When I stop working from home it'll have to be a bit earlier anyway.

I have been early morning up until today!! I done w3r3 at about 4pm this afternoon and I felt great! I think early morning probably suits me during the week but I think when I'm nervous about a run, I may do late afternoon to see how it goes

Jnubster profile image
JnubsterGraduate in reply to MITCHSCULLY

I think that’s the thing you have to find a time to suit

My legs don't work until I've properly woken up and had breakfast...so anytime after 10am is my favourite.

I don't like running anytime after tea. Even if I wait 3 hours...feels like it's harder work!

Jnubster profile image
JnubsterGraduate in reply to FitterFor40

I know what you mean, sometimes I think I should eat before I go out. My legs sometimes feel like dead weights after a bit of running though if I eat! Did think I’d eat a banana but haven’t bothered as of yet!

Hi, well, Iv always been an early runner, anything from 5am, but found I couldn't 'be bothered' to do workouts, in the evening, so I tried evening running and found it quite relaxing, so it varies what shift I'm on, early shift then its early workout, late run, later shifts, its run and workouts together.😁

Evenings for me, my son gets up early so mornings and daytime aren't an easy option. Not sure what I'll do when the evenings get darker as I like running off road and my normal routes aren't lit. Probably a mix of running on lit streets in the week and a longer off-road daytime run at the weekend, but not sure how that will work.

Jnubster profile image
JnubsterGraduate in reply to Blackberrypie

Thanks 😊 I run on an old road, still well used but I know it’s not really well lit at night. I’m looking at other routes near home!

The latest I've gone out is 0745, tea and half a banana, stretches , i can't move otherwise them oot the door ! I am a morning person, always have been and also there are fewer people about to see me ! I'm not sure i will ever feel confident about being seen running tbh. Perhaps when I'm a bit quicker!

I used to run at 9pm, without fail but I found it left me too hyped up and wanted to go again.

I run in the mornings, in fact in the last 2 years I've probably run once in the afternoon and that was around 5-6pm.

Morning runs, or bike rides, leave me set for the day, wide awake and ready to go.

Between 7 and 8am for me. I started off feeling self conscious but I just enjoy the run now, and I see lots of the same runners, dog walkers and cyclists out at that time and we wave to each other.

I go out around 7am...if I left it until after work, I know that I would find a million and one excuses not to go and would find it hard to fit in around family stuff (dinner, bath time, sorry time) as have 2 young kids. So this suits me perfectly. Although I have only been doing this since lockdown, so I'm a little worried how my motivation will be when the mornings are dark and wet!

Jnubster profile image
JnubsterGraduate in reply to Rtherk83

Yes that’s what I’m beginning to think! I’ll be back at work in September (work in education). I have a teenage daughter & I feel I may look for a million excuses too!

Rtherk83 profile image
Rtherk83Graduate in reply to Jnubster

I'm back in the office a couple of days a week now so am going running on the days I'm still working from home currently which works nicely... I note a few people say evening runs are better for speed which may explain why I'm so slow! But I know myself and really wouldn't go after a full working day - after I put the kids to bed, all I want to do is collapse on the sofa! Plus, like others, I quite enjoy the smug feeling of having it out of the way before breakfast. :-)

That was me, I started in the evening but didn’t feel it at all, then I tried 6am when there’s no one about and it’s perfect, My energy levels seem much better and I find running easier. Only had this discussion with a runner yesterday. I try to run at 7:15 in the morning, they run early evening. They have done both and say they run faster in the evening which is why they swapped.

My thoughts - whatever suits you.

I'm lucky because I'm at home all day, but when I started C25K I ran at 10am. I've now switched to either 8 or 9 am because otherwise I find I do nothing until I go for a run, so this gets me up and doing earlier. I run around a park which backs onto a school, so when they go return properly, I'll run at 9 as otherwise I crash into children, buggies, dogs, lunch boxes, etc etc.

I’m an early morning runner. Tend to be out at 5.15am ... originally is was to ensure no contact with people at height of the pandemic, but have continued at this time as it seems to set me up energised and fresh for the day. Did one evening run and found a lot more people around and hotter.

Totally evening for me.

I have no energy at all in the morning and running really takes it out of me, so I couldn't face a day at the office after a run.

A run when the sun is going down, before a rest and a late dinner, and most of all a night to recover, are ideal for me.

It seems like I might be a bit weird, cause I dont have a fixed time but I tend to go around noon. Yesterday I run for the first time before breakfast (W6R3) and it might have been a coincidence, but I found it particularly tough. Not sure it works for me on an empty stomach.

By noon normally I have long digested my hearty breakfast and it feels good to run before cooking lunch. For my Spanish standards, London weather is a delight in Summer and I have so long never found it unpleasantly warm, although I dont always run at noon and I might have avoided that time in the hottest days.

I guess the end of the working from home might force me to change this habit, however.

Hi Jnubuster I see you you invisible runner. I am exactly the same. Prefer to run when fewer people are about.

I prefer early morning runs but l need a good hour to great my body ready for a run by that time it’s not early any more. But morning runs do set me up for the day. At 47 I’m not so springing out of bed any more. I think I need to hey over the fact people will see me run and I should be bothered what they think or how I see myself.
