Educating Enid - Week 1 revisited: Reset your goals!

Restarting Couch to 5K has allowed my inner ego, Enid, and I to reset our goals.

Also, to reflect on the "journey travelled" (I normally hate those words) since last time. Taking time to look back has allowed me to mark the progress made since I originally started this programme.

I/we are a stone lighter and lighter in mood too. I have to thank this programme and forum community for that. (Although my inner ego, Enid, will also be on the wobbly side.)

I/we want to be able to run 5K (again) but to continue to work on strength of body and mind. Enid's education is a life long learning plan.

It may have rained during that magical 8 minutes that I actually ran today but it was washing away Enid's fears that we would never get back out there.

Who else is repeating the programme?

I'm back after 5 years, enjoying things so far😊

Yeah of course...I remember seeing that you are repeating it. Do you think it is different because we know we know what comes next?

I love the turtle and snail.

My injured runner-husband sometimes runs ... no ‚joins‘ me in my runs, but he walks faster than I run ... and backwards. 😄

Do I mind? No way.

Well done for restarting on C25k, I am actually a tiny wee bit jealous, as being at my 2nd consolidation run, I am still panicking about not having a structure to keep me on my track!

Go Enid! 🏅🏅

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Glad you have the occasional running partner in your husband sorry to hear he is injured. I know what you mean re speed. Even I can probably walk faster than I run at the moment. 😂Playing safe. Happy running. Thank you again.

So good you & Enid found some magic in the rain Nilsam and to see you out there today and realising how much you have already achieved.

I was astonished how far I could still run after 2 quite a long breaks, one after the other, quite a different place to when I began C25K in January. We never travel the same path twice in life and despite our setbacks are stronger in mind and body than when we set out the first time. 🤗

Excellent sentiment, JorgeRuns. You are quite right. I could step in the programme further along but going back to week 1 is giving the arm more time to heal. Although I am going to try and do alternative days to get up to speed quicker but stick to 3 times a week if I cannot achieve it. Thanks again for the support...right behind you. 🏃🏼‍♀️👍

Well done you for getting back out there. It takes courage to start over. With Enid’s help, you’ll do beautifully.

Thank you so much dieOR5k...not sure that Enid is helping. I may need a wheel barrow for later weeks in the programme...but she's coming with me. No lounging on the bench this time. 👩‍💻😁👍

Oh brilliant Nilsam! Yes, you are repeating, but with a different perspective and also wisdom about running and how to keep your body strong. That's great.

I was thinking I might need to start again, but I've been about 5 weeks not running, so managed about 15 minutes today, with a very short bout of walking. So I think I'm going to build slowly from here. The heady days of regular 5k runs seem a long time ago and it will take a while to get there again, but perhaps I could be part of the restarted club?

Yeah! 👏So pleased, Roxdog. An official member...you will probably be leading the way. That is an impressive 1st run.

I love you message and you are right it is great to get different perspective on the programme. Take care and happy running. (Indoors or outdoors?)

Oh definitely outdoors. I think I'll probably sell the treadmill at some point!

An outdoor convert...maybe hang on to it for those dark wet winter days...but I remember you were quite a hardy runner. 🏃🏻‍♀️👩‍💻🤸‍♀️

Yes, a lockdown panic purchase which I don't think I need! Oh well... Looking forward to my winter runs actually, when maybe I can go exploring again hopefully. No ill effects from my run yesterday, but I need to be very carefully not to kick off this injury again.

Yes, fingers crossed. Stretches and slow running to start. 👍

NilsamGraduate in reply to karen50plus

🤣🤣 Noooo....well maybe in my inner ego's hand. 🤔Perhaps it was subconsciously drawn as I am trying to stay clear of alcohol as part of my health plan.🙄 That is so funny though. I think you might be right! 😂🍷

Oh Karen50plus, it will all disappear when you get back to Zumba etc. (Throw It in the bushes of a nearby woods 🌳🏃🏻‍♀️.) As for that purple bar...Mmmm yummy. 🍫 The coconut substitute ones are just not as good. Take care. 🙋🏻‍♀️👍

I repeated the plan recently after nearly a year out with injury.

It worked.

I am smiling again.

Thank you so much, Fionamags. I appreciate the encouragement. I am dragging Enid with me this time as part of our continuous Education. She is bound to trip me up at some point. 👭Happy running. 👍

Wonderful Nilsam, I am so glad you and Enid are officially "Off the Couch" 😃!

I got to within a hare's breathe of graduating last year when I completed W9R1 only to land with a heavy bump on the IC, so this has been a second time round for me, albeit a first graduation.

The beauty of second times around is that you are wiser, knowing what lies ahead and how you will react. I also found that I was happy to take my time, knowing I was doing this for me and I stopped comparing myself to others around me quite as much as first go.

I don't think that Enid is going to need as much tuition this time around, do you? She looks very happy in your picture! 🤗

Thank you so much, Delly-dot. It has been great reading your posts and now knowing what you went through...I take my hat off to you with the progress you made.

As for Enid ...well we were rather scared initially and it was only when we realised it was just a 60 second run that we felt ok to try it out. She could be a liability as we progress but we know all evil twin / gremlin / mojo/ inner ego's can be. 👭👍👩‍💻

Happy running and thank you again.

I did repeat it post injury , I was about 6 consolidation runs in when my knee started to play up.

So several weeks off, on the IC.

What was great about repeating so soon after doing the programme, was being able to compare my fitness and stamina to the first time, even after an 8 week lay off. Amazing!!!

Glad you are back on track 🤩
