Finally! Three months post graduation, with a few weeks off spent on the Injury Couch, I have at last run my first 5k this morning. A big thank you to roseabi for her sound advice and wonderful post graduation bridging plan that she shared with Allbarron and myself. It has helped me to reach that elusive 5k mark and is gently going to ease me into the Magic 10k plan over the next few weeks.

For those who have read my recent posts, you will know that my mojo has been playing up recently, until I found it lurking behind the sofa one Saturday evening after watching James Bond...... Anyway, Mymojo as "she" has now been officially and affectionately named, pushed me out of bed this morning after I read Speedy60 's and Hidden ' latest posts.

I am chuffed to bits to have reached my first 5k. My two teenagers and hubby cheered me when I shared my time when I reached home. I felt like I had graduated all over again, as I feel I am officially a Couch to 5k runner now 😊.

For any new graduates who are still striving to hit the 5k mark, just keep going - you are doing brilliantly. I know it's not always easy/fun/comfortable, sometimes it's down right hard/difficult/draining, but each consolidation run strengthens your legs and builds your stamina. If my 50 year old post-injury legs can do it, so can yours!

Happy running everyone!πŸ˜πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Congratulations 🎊 πŸŽ‰ 🎈

That's fantastic well done x

It feels so good to achieve a target you've been chasing after.

Enjoy the rest of your day. Give Mymojo a pat on the back too πŸ˜‚

This has put me in such a good mood today! I feel like I have got over a hump in the road and me and Mymojo are looking forward to what is round the next corner. 😊

Yaaaaaaaay! Well done DD. Such great news especially after mojo went missing!

Look forward to seeing you on the bridge? Still struggling with trying to contain my 5 k in 30 mins.

Now go and celebrate !

in reply to Timotea

I don't think I'll ever get my 5k down to 30 minutes but the great thing about roseabi's plan is it repeats the 30 minute runs each week, so who knows? I have been lurking on the bridge, so I might feel I can officially pop over soon!

You little beauty!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xxxxxxxxx

in reply to roseabi

Thank you so much roseabi. I'm so proud to have reached this target. I might have to come and properly visit the bridge to 10k forum soon, instead of lurking!

Yay, well done,πŸŽ‰so chuffed for you! I've done 7 consolidation runs and nowhere near 5k but I'm loving trying! Go you!πŸ˜€

in reply to Blossom-

Well done on your 7 consolidation runs. That is a great achievement and all those runs will be taking you in the right direction. Stick with it 😊

Really well done! Just graduated last Friday and very much looking for a plan. Any suggestions?

in reply to Bloomsbury22

Congratulations on your graduation! Consolidate with 30 minute runs for the next few weeks and then perhaps try roseabi's bridging plan. It is simply this:

weeks 1 & 2: run 1 - 20 minutes (I made this my faster run each week), run 2 - 30 minutes, run 3 - 35 minutes

weeks 3 & 4: run 1 - 20 minutes, run 2 - 30 minutes, run 3 - 40 minutes (my run today)

weeks 5 & 6: run 1 - 20 minutes, run 2 -30 minutes, run 3 - 45 minutes

..... and so on, increasing the last run by 5 minutes until you get to 60 minutes. with the option to not repeat the weeks by this stage if you feel happy. Around this point roseabi's plan merges with ju-ju's bridge to 10k plan.

Good luck!

Congratulations my lovely !!!

Well done and crack open some bubbly to celebrate.

Let me know when your starting the Magic 10K plan, I have completed it once last year but feel I just need to do it again (so I know it wasn’t a one hit wonder)

Need to have someone doing it alongside for some motivation πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Have a great rest of the day x

in reply to RunRunRun13

Hello!! Great to hear from you! I was worried you had run off into the sunset in your lovely profile photo...., so glad you are still here 😊.

roseabi's wonderful plan is easing me in gently to the Magic 10k plan, so I am kind of at week 2 of the magic plan, but I will be doing this week all over again next week if that makes sense? It is an elongated way in! You could join me on roseabi's plan if you like - I have written it out for Bloomsbury22 in my reply above you. It would be great to have you along!

Just keep those legs moving and you can only go in the right direction.

Well done, a great achievement. I’m doing W9R3 on Friday and have no idea how to take things forward. Where can I find the bridging plan you have referred to please?

in reply to Frissels

Hi Frissels. Good luck for Friday. I have written the plan in my reply to Bloomsbury22 a few posts above yours. I would suggest a few weeks of consolidating your 30 minute runs first before starting it, but you will know when you are ready. Enjoy your graduation run!

So well done, Delly-dot! And to come back from injury and adversity is inspirational. There's nothing quite like that sense of achievement - it's a shame you can't bottle it and spray it on when times are tough.

You are a real runner; you've earned your spurs. No going back now! πŸ‘Š

Very humbling to be mentioned in dispatches. Thank you. πŸ’•

Pleasure to mention you Speedy! Everyone here is so supportive and reading all the posts is really great motivation for me. πŸ€—

in reply to SweatyHettie

Oh I have been lurking a while on the bridge but not properly crossed over to the other side yet! I think I might feel I could take a few tentative steps that way soon..... πŸ˜ƒ

Well done Delly-Dot! Good luck on the magic plan! The bridge to 10k forum is useful and friendly too. I found increasing my distance after getting to 5k was just a matter of changing my routes and getting lost! Well done you!😊

in reply to Roxdog

I like the idea of running without a planned route and seeing where my feet take me. I run out on the local commons where I live. There is a network of footpaths; some I know from dog walking, others I don't , so I probably won't get lost, but I could end up going round in circles πŸ˜†.

in reply to PeggySusi

Thank you Peggy. You will get to 5k, every step will be taking you in the right direction. I like to remember that a snail's 5k and a hare's 5k are the same distance πŸ˜ŠπŸŒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
